Speaker ohms dropping?

even though this got off track a bit from the OP....

dont worry about the metered readings you're getting..go by what the speakers say.

and, yes, you can run your head impedence LOWER than the total speakers.

ie, amp on 4, speaker on 8 or 16

or amp at 8 and speakers on 16. it's not going to KILL your fucking amp or burn out your speakers.

i like information, but, ALL the info in the world doesn't help you when you cant apply it, or have the real world working experience to apply it....ie "well, on paper and theoretically, this is the only way that works, so i can't do it ANY other way".

You should really read the information in the link I posted above. It explains why mismatching can be dangerous and especially for the situation in bold.
