My Old mesa recto std 412 ( bought new around 99) with original V30s seems to randomly lose top end. Just the ultra high stuff ie the sizzle or presence. At least I think. It seems to come and go. Ive changed amps, cables, guitars etc. Only seems to happen with that cab. Ive pulled each speaker and checked them out and metered them. Everything looks fine. Re wired the cab and replaced the jack too. gotta be the speakers right? Or is this even possible? Could be my hearing?

Any thoughts?

Very strange, only thong I can think of is to try to disconnect a couple of speakers and see if you can isolate it to a speaker or pair of speakers....

Do you mean changes from room to room or day to day, or changes as you're playing it?

This is the straight/slant Recto cab, right? Are all your other cabs straight?

Yes, this^^Day to day or do you notice while you play? Does it happen with any amp plugged into it? Could be tubes, instrument or speaker cable maybe? Hopefully not your hearing. :(

this cab is a slant. But I do have other cabs that are straight. it changes while im playing. This happens with any amp, guitar cable etc.

^^ I agree ^^

Maybe, plug up a powered mixer and play an album you're most familiar with. Raise the cab to head level. If something sounds weird, you will be able to move to all 4 speakers to compare. Hopefully this will reveal the problem speakers. Just don't fry your eardrums ;)
