pretty sure Ill be needing one with my 4holer 68 build....had a Ho but didnt gel with it....heard the Alex is pretty good. Who has one and give me the run down please.

I have one. It's totally transparent until you attenuate a dimed amp down to bedroom volumes.

I've used mine with my XTC and 5150. With either amp dimed and the Alex at -12db and the secondary volume knob at 12:00 it sounds really good. I'll set the treble knob at +1 just to add that little bit thats lost back in.

Keep in mind all attenuaters will decrease the air movement of the speakers and that alone will change the sound and feel of the amp.

I bought the rights to the Alex Attenuator last year. I've made it a little more user friendly on the label, and it's been upgraded with a 2nd speaker jack, high temperature teflon wiring, and it's readily available. If you're interested, check my website, it's now the Scumback DBL. Same price with all the upgrades, too.

I have an Alex...it's hands down the best that I've tried. Very transparent on the first two settings (-3, -6) but the sound thins out a bit on the -9 and -12 settings. It won't get you down to "bedroom" volumes either...actually it will, but sounds like garbage that low. The treble boost is a nice feature that imparts some lost highs with more extreme attenuation.

no bedroom settings for me...this will purely be a gigging amp...just need to knock off a few decibels for rehearsals

I have a Metro 12,000 kit that I installed a LarMar PPIMV. If you only want gigging volume, definitely install one of these!! No attenuator required.

I will be installing a dual ganged MV to have the best of both worlds but its not quite the same as diming the MV (out of the circuit) and using your amp as a true non master volume

Also check out the Rivera Rockcrusher, it's also a load box and is 8/16 ohm switchable.

True, but master half way up is still pushing the tubes, and very loud! Diming the amp and using an attenuator may sound better, but it will kill the tubes pretty quick!

yup...harder on the amp but you only live once :D I got some pretty robust tubes exactly for this...Mullards and RFTs....
