My other guitarist and I spent most the day comparing modern day “greenback” types in Marshall 1960A cabs. Unfortunately no clips, but all tests were blind and done at loud volume in his isolated music room. Amps were my Morris UK78 (800 clone), Morris SIRROM, and his JMP and OG 5150.

Speakers tested: modern UK G12M Reissue, EVH, WGS Invader, Creamback 65, Mojotone BV-25M, and Fane F25. We didn’t have quads of all of these, so we loaded up what we had and isolated the other speakers with Auralex pads as best as possible. Some were quads, some pairs, and a few singles. Also threw in Vintage 30’s and WGS ET-65’s for the hell of it. Also had a single Scumback BM75-LD.

In the blind test, I preferred the UK greenback and my buddy preferred the Fane 25. The Fane was my 2nd favorite. We also both liked the Mojotone. The Invader was really good as well, but we both thought it was pretty far away from a greenback……more modern and closer to an H magnet speaker…..so doesn’t belong here even though it’s advertised as a high watt GB.

The EVH and Creamback were both our least favorites, with the EVH slightly edging out the latter. The EVH is kind of scooped and has a soft, honk and not a lot of edge. By far the most sedate of all speakers tested. The Creamback is just too much of everything EQ wise and really bland/flat sounding.

The Vintage 30 is what it is and the ET-65 was awful. Scumback was pretty lackluster as well…..just flat and boring sounding and not too far off from the Creamback 65. Not much character or edge to it.

Was time well spent and decided to leave the 1960AX in stock form and moved an x of Fane F25 and Mojo 25M into my regular 1960A
