Anybody have experience with both amps? If so which did you prefer and why?

I'm following even though there might not be many who have had both. I've had a Quick Rod and a Nitro but I'm considering a Yeti, Chupa, or AH next. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Correctomundo..

I will say this.. I generally dislike amps with multiple switches/gadgets, as noted in the thread posted. BUT, the one tone I dialed in with the Yeti, and left alone was worth the price of admission. Of course, the King Kong is 2 channel. I can't imagine there's a shitty tone in it, but I kinda like skipping the labor pains to get the baby. It really depends on what you're after - one core tone with a clean? I'm sure it will be more than adequate. But, like mentioned, I spent too much time fucking around looking for other tones, to see if I could one-up what I already liked.

I own a Quick Rod, currently, (and have owned one back in '05, and a Competition a few years ago). My choice is clearly the Splawn. No gatchetry, no switches, no added B.S. I pretty much live on 1st gear, OD2, and toggle to second gear, (don't use 3rd gear at all). I also run an always on Buxom Boost. I don't use the clean channel either, and actually preferred another Competition, but this one fell into my lap.

All this said, I still feel the Yeti was a tad more aggressive, and a tad tighter. Maybe Mylilss will chime in. He has my Yeti, and has a Quick Rod.

Edge goes to the Quick Rod, (for me). Especially after I put KT77's in it. Tones are quite similar, but, the Splawn delivers with less fuss.

Oh, and most importantly the Ceriatone's FX loops suck, big time. I happened to have an upgraded one on the Yeti, but if you like using the loop, make sure , (if you go Ceriatone), it has an upgraded loop. Their standard loop is terrible.

Have you tried an MCII? If your that over the moon with the QR I bet you'd really like the Wizard.

Out of my budget.

I don't want to say too much, as I have not tried a cieratone, but I really dig my Splawns. You can get sweet low to midgain tones and more gain than you need. Three gears, od1/od2, switchable masters, etc. Very versatile. Cleans imo are average. Very flexible. Two of mine I have had for around a decade without issue. The one thing is that they are really picky about the speakers they are paired with.

I've owned both, splawn is the clear winner in my book

My favorite thing with Splawns is that you can get every volume and gain level simply from the footswitch.

Good info folks. Hopefully if I can sell some amps I can grab a splawn

I've owned a couple of Quickrods, a Nitro, and a Splawn modded Plexi RI. I have also owned a Yeti for the last 6 years. For me the Yeti was the winner. I liked the feel and the level of saturation from the Yeti more. It seemed a little wilder and more "Marshall"? Regardless they are all amazing amps and you would do great with any of them.

I certainly wouldn't pass up another Yeti. It is a killer amp. I wouldn't trade my Splawn for one, but I'd own another, no question.

Bump. Curious about the differences between Ceriatone and Splawns. I had a 2014 Pro Stock I liked a lot, loved at times, but at times wanted something different out of it. Never played a Yeti, but one is for sale and I'm interested in trying it.

Anyone compared the KK/Yeti to RECENT (2015+) Splawns?

Paging @Bad.Seed

I think Kyle has owned/played Ceri Chuppa and has a QR.

What did the kit-77’s do to the tone?
I’ve used these in other amps that were 6l6/el-34 switchable with pretty good results
Which KT-77’s did you use?

I still have my King Kong, both Splawns I had are long gone.

I had a Yeti and currently have a QR. The stock loop on the Yeti was not up to par but it did sound great. Options paralysis burned me out on the Yeti. Couldn't stop f'ing with the switches and P trimmer.

I would own another Ceriatone but one with less stuff on it. The QR is great but I have been honeymooning with a Pandora modded 2203X i bought recently. Need to A/B the two soon.

We had a Yeti and a Quick Rod for a while - the Splawn was better for most things. The Ceriatone was pretty good but really took some tweaking to find a good sound, and the tolex was kinda cheap n thin - peeling and tearing. Other than that the build quality was good though.
