I begged the great Chubtone, purveyor of tone and gear, and he lent me his Splawn Quickrod.
Anyway, here is a quick clip. I used my Phantom Attenuator at -4db into a Lopoline traditional closed back 1x12 loaded with an Eminence Super V speaker. I love this amp....

Who is this "great Chubtone" imposter? I'm glad you are digging the amp. You are welcome to keep it for a small fee so I can get the 2011 Quick Rod.

I'm pretty sure that mine is the 4 preamp tube model. They switched to 4 preamp tubes when they updated the clean channel, and that one has the updated cleans.

And is it just me, or does the camera make it look like you are wearing white tights? If you are, it's certainly not the first time that amps been played through by a dude wearing tights.

Sounds great, but please stop playing leads on that Quick Rod. It can't be done. It is physically impossible. You've read the threads. ;)

You can keep it until next week if you want. I'm going out of town this weekend, so have at it.

So uhm... How are the mids?

Hauntingly weird, of course....

:D

I was playing my QR this past weekend and it's becoming my "Desert Island" amp more than anything else I own or owned.

Proof that tone really IS in the hands.

bahaha joking of course. I'm actually really interested to hear these amps in person because in clips I think they sound great. Great demo, was that an overdrive pedal you used, or did you blend in the carol ann when you said OD2?

The Splawn gives you a choice between regular overdrive or a little bit more when you engage the "OD2" on the foot pedal. The gain was all from the amp. The Suhr I used has low output pickups. DSV neck and DSV+ in the bridge. I used my Phantom attenuator at -4db to be able to put the Master a 9:00 without shaking the walls. Still pretty loud though...

The foot-switch is laid out like this:
Left Button: Clean/OD
Middle Button: OD/OD2
Right Button: Normal/Solo (It has a Solo Master Volume control)

These amps are IMO very underrated and having played out for many years, the tone sits perfectly in the mix. Steve Stevens uses these mostly when he plays live FWIW...

Michael Wagener seems to love the QR as well... ;)

That sounded great...I dig the QR. It definitely stays true to its Marshall heritage...moreso than alot of other "hot rodded" Marshall type amps.

I'm bumping this because a) the dude can play and b) all the other threads on the first page are lame

....but that's not important right now
