I personally think of Mesa and Splawn like arch enemies... In a weird sense... Or maybe distant nemesis's that only see each other to fight once in a while.

Really? Whenever the Splawn guys went on the offensive it was usually aimed at Cameron or Marshall guys.

Actually, it seems like they're more aimed at Cameron and Mesa. Mesa becuase they're so compressed and get lost in the mix, and Cameron because they're so expensive and Splawn does it better.

I know these arguements have been beaten to death but if you're serious, I've heard plenty of Mesa's live in band mix and the only one's that get lost in the mix are when someone scoops the mids too much on them. And i can see you've obviously never played a CCV

Since I am a dealer, I am not going to post my thoughts directly. I am kind of biased. Regardless, the thread needs to be steered more on topic. These threads spiral out of proportion after a reasonable question is asked. Brand loyalty aside, what do you (owners) think about the Street Rods? From the outside looking in, non-owners what can persuade and dissuade you from buying one, new or used?

Just trying to get things back on topic here. The OP does not care about Camerons, Marshalls, etc... He has owned plenty of both; I would know.

A couple of observations from this thread. Like Josh above, I am a Splawn dealer so take this with a grain of salt too. I think the 5150III is a great amp. Channel 2 is brown sound city and channel three is great too. It also has a great clean channel. I think it does those three things combined better than a Splawn. BUT, I think the Splawn does that "one thing" better than the 5150III. And that "one thing" is what I look for when I buy an amp.

And danyeo's comment about Splawn guys going on the offensive I think was fixed when shreder changed it to say Splawn guys on the defensive. And I respect danyeo's opinion on guitars and amps, even though he and I don't agree on either. He is willing to try certain things and he seems to really give them a fair shot before moving on. He is absolute proof that while I love one thing and he loves a complete different thing, there has to be differing products because we don't all want the same thing.

And to Hollywood who originally started this thread, you already know and dig the Splawn tone. You know and dig the way a Splawn rewards you with a what you put in is what comes out type of sound. I think you personally will really dig a Street Rod. It's what you already know and dig in a portable and slightly less loud package.

I think for the uninitiated the Splawn can be a big slap in the face. In an era of juicy, liquidy, let the preamp fill in the blanks for you style of amp, the Splawn is a very different beast. But put a mic on those juicy, liquidy amps and ........... where did it GO? Put a mic on the Splawn and hear it in a mix and

It is the easiest to record amp I own.

If you want an amp that cuts the mix and still has juicy, chewy tone, try a new Bogner 20th Anniversary Shiva with EL34s. That amp is my Marshall meat modern. I did hear a band where the one guitarist had a StreetWod and the other an Electra Dyne. The Mesa ED sounded twice as big and fat, very inspiring to hear. They played everything from classic rock to 80s metal to modern rock. The ED combo sounded fatter than the SR through a 412.

The ED is badass especially w/ a boost. I'm wanting to play and hear the Royal Atlantic 100 they have coming out. I'm hoping it sounds like a gainier ED w/ more features and versatility.

When I tried the Royal Atlantic, it was like a Marshall style modern high gainer. The ED sounds fatter and takes pedals Sooo well that it becomes VERY versatile with a few pedals! With that you could.do anything. Thing I don't like is it lacks a built in lead or solo boost. This feature is brilliant on my Shiva and PWE. Mesa Boogie also feels natural stiffer to me. the Splawn has the creamy, Marshall mids. Talking to a good buddy of mine, he said he never uses a solo boost for gigs, he just kicks on his delay.
With that in mind, with the ED I would just use a Tube screamer type pedal or any good OD out front to boost leads.
Since I already have an OD on my board, this works best.
Really the ED is so amazing because it so simple and pure, yet very complex sounding. It is an artist's empty canvas and you can use pedals to get whatever you want from blues modern metal or grunge.
A friend of mine uses the ED for a cover gig and they do it all from VH to Alice in Chains to Led Zep to Rage against the machine and it sounds FAT. His bandmate uses a Marshall DSL and nowhere near as huge sounding!

I think if your style is more dropped tuning, modern metal type guitar, a Splawn won't be squishy enough. If you like 70's rock, and 80's metal, a Splawn is just right !

I was close to getting an Electradyne by Mesa, but it is too unforgiving, bloated sounding and lacks saturation and low volume tones. I think the Streetrod just wins in every catergorie from tone to feel. It will look nice next to my 20th Anniversary Bogner Shiva and PWE Event Horizon.
Just killer Marshall tones....like a better Marshall! Thick, thick thick!

I've tried most and Splawn Quick Rod does everything I need and want. If your QR doesn't sound the way you want you're probably dialing it in wrong (as is the case with most amps). A Street Rod is definitely in my future and will most likely displace my Hughes & Kettner Switchblade 100C.
