SS power tubes…it was only a matter of time

Interesting..... Wasn't there something else like this a few years ago?

I wonder if this is some kind of new approach instead of FET and MOSFET technology? I wonder why they don't make the older MOSFET's like they used to?

Solid State tubes aren't a new thing it's just people don't really make them anymore but they should be more affordable to make or feasible I figure.

There was a small batch of them around still and Viva Tubes had a bunch, I think they have a few now but yeah. Looks cool, if it's affordable and they sound cool why not. Jet City made some for a while too but yeah I don't think many make them now if any. Rectifier versions are common and these can be had easily still.

Yes, I was aware of the Jet City ones - has anyone else made these that you can think of?

I swear there have been a handful of different attempts, and every time, basically nothing comes of it

Mmmmm Roland with the new iteration of Blues Cube thing about a decade or more ago too sort of. It was like a proprietary vacuum tube that didn't really look like a tube and kind of weird :dunno:

Boss/Roland Tube Logic on its own is pretty good though and yeah not exactly like a tube amp but the Katana Atist Models and Nextones sure sound very tube like IMO and completely SS.

People have been trying to do this forever.

If they actually succeed, and it sounds good, i'm sure touring acts will use them
Yeah and some higher gain amps actually like a clean, wide bandwidth power section.

I wonder what they do with the heater voltage? Do they even use it?

That's a good question tbh

If they can do this with power tubes is the real question honestly - good quality NOS preamp tubes already last decades.

It's cool that verellen is trying to go that direction, but the question is, how does it work and is it safe for the amp?

If they came up with a really cool solution, i'm sure lots of gigging/touring players would adopt it immediately

That is not a "SS" tube at all. If you knew anything about really old vacuum tubes of a certain design (or have basic reading comprehension) then you'd recognize that some otherwise typical vacuum tubes came with those black metal (or whatever the material is) covers. You just assumed because they're both black they must be the same thing. That's racist.

Black Metal/SS same diff and not glass :dunno:

I was wondering if anyone else was going to point out that was just a standard metal can NOS Rca tube. Pretty common. Still a vacuum tube, even if glass isn't used.

Racism in abundance here, I agree.

"Tone alternative" which mean they sound NOTHING like a real tube, but buy our shit anyway.

Tone Alternative
OCTAL offers a tone alternative to power vacuum tubes, providing another tool in creating the sound that defines your playing.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I guess there are like two SS type tubes the metal kind and the ceramic kind. Those are the metal kind.....

I think the ones in OP are ceramic based but not sure....... maybe some new material or something :dunno:

I think that I still have some of the Jet City SS pre's. Have not used them in years but don't remember not liking them.

Uh, what? These are not vacuum tubes. The casing is a heatsink. Not even close to the same diff.
Metal/Ceramic SS tube or whatever the hell you want to call it...... it's not a glass tube...... whatever you want to call it it's obviously not a glass vacuum tube......

Der der der.... Thanks for pointing out the obvios : P

The only other thing I can think of aside from the Roland stuff as an "alternative" to tubes isn't really an alternative but it's those Yellow Jacket adapters. So in case you want to run the amp with an alternative type of tube like el84 vs 6v6 and 6l6 types you can. Not sure if they do it for El34 type amps but yeah.

It's not a vacuum tube or a tube at all. And metal casings vs solid state devices have nothing to do with each other. Which doesn't seem to be obvious to you given your first post and followup posts in this thread. It's a couple of mosfets surrounded by a heatsink. Maybe stop pretending like you know what you're talking about 99% of the time. So that way when people are looking for answers on the internet they don't mistakenly take your advice.
