SS power tubes…it was only a matter of time

It sounds like you mic'd the amp from a mile away inside an airplane hangar kimg
I know its not the best spot and I put it right above the amp..... could have been a lot better positioning from that aspect with an android phone either way.

But in general like to use the plate verb to get a organ type reponse along with the heavy octave.

Lab Series sound amazing. I've seen players use them straight up or slave them into bigger tube amps too with great results.

Yeah those things rock. Mainly great clean to breakup tones IME and fantastic.

Yep! Once, our guitarist tried his Les Paul with an early production DiMarzio Super Distortion into a Peavey Decade into a LAB Series keyboard amp. I was surprised at how good it sounded. And that was back in 1983!

Its mainly IMO that while others were trying to make decent and good SS amps like Peavey or Roland, Randall, Yamaha and others at the time...... they were really kind of budget options still..... and these guys did make and still make great SS amps......

LAB Series stuff was the best and highest quality available as far as SS amps at the time, I dont think they spared any expense or cut corners with these in regards to build and quality. They really just behave like an amp should in the power section and better than a lot of tube amps too.

This and the preamps just have a lot of soul even for SS and part of the reason if you get one and slave it into a tube amp you get some of the best tones one could get IMO or that I have heard live for Jazz or Blues in general from IMO some pretty top players and professionals.

Honestly it could be a lot better and will do another take of Alucard........ dial back the reverb and place the mic better :dunno:

They're great amps. I saw King's X live in a club in Sacramento touring on their 4th album. 1992 IIRC. Ty had 9 Marshall 4x12's at the gig. 3 stacks of 3 cabs.
Anyway, before the show started, Ty's tech grabbed grabbed one of the Elite Strats tuned to drop D, fired up his LAB rig, hit a D chord and...

There it was, Ty's tone. And it was fucking glorious.

Solid state can deliver "tone of the Gods". Frank Marino's first live album is all solid state amps with pedals.

It has to be a real bitch to create a viable solid state power tube replacement. And yeah, I know they wouldn't sound like glass and crystal lattices. LOL

I guess also bringing this up again to remind people.......

Yes Tubes are fucking awesome and I love them and you wont find many others who love them more than me or other members here even more so tbh......

But it comes a time when you have to admit the SS/Digital stuff aint so bad nowadays or the SS stuff in general....... and it feels good to do the responsible thing, play less tubes, rotate between your SS and Tube amps..... and just find something that works for you.

Its just the responsible thing to do as a player, as a consumer and just as a person IMO and your not sacrificing anything....... its just different but just as good as tubes or better in some regards.

SS isnt so bad in 2025 :dunno:
