Here's a clip I just did. It's a lead I wrote for our upcoming album.

Signal is modded Phase 90--> MXR Classic OD--> BB+ --> Carbon Copy into the recto's clean channel. I love stacking!

I have found good results going Maxon 808 > Little Big Muff. Sometimes I experiment with a clean boost (MXR Micro Amp) in the chain as well.

Don't know if you can hear how nice it feels with the volume rolled back.

Ed Degenaro showed me that years ago at NAMM. I actually thought about it but never thought it would sound good but I was blown away by how cool it was. IIRC he had an emma Reza pedal and a fulltone fulldrive stacked and it sounded pretty sick

Ya, just a little dab from each will do ya. You can definitely go overboard and end up with a muddy mess.

I agree!! Plus if you go to extreme you get to much compression. hell, I'm a compression whore but there is such a thing as to much

At first I went too far, it can add a lot of hiss...when it sounds like 'whoooshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' when you stop playing, you've gone too far.
I have it sounding nice now and the noise floor is not bad at all...I don't like noise gates.

Tube Screamer into BOSS SD-1... some of the best tone I've ever heard... works with every amp I've tried.

Care to share what amp you used this with and what your pedal settings were? I have a ts-10 and a sd-1

On the Tube Screamer, keep the drive below 9:00 (mine is 8:30) and the Level fairly high (2:30--3:00, mine is all the way up), tone at about 10:00. SD-1 is all "to taste" but mine has the Level at 1:00, the Tone at 12:30, and the Drive at 3:30.

Beauty of this is you can use the TS in front of a higher-gain channel to provide some compression, focus, etc., use the SD-1 in front of pretty much any channel to get great tones, or use them both in front of a clean channel to get an excellent mid-high-gain sound.

I love stacking pedals.

I use either the AC booster with a H.B.E Full Metal Jacket, or a Wampler Super Plextortion with a Maxon OD9.

I even like combing my Octafuzz with overdrives. Makes the octave effect leap out a bit more, less abrasive on the high frequencies.

The Xotic line is great for adding some compression, but they can get really over compressed easily for me. I didn't bond with the BB or the AC as much as the RC.

I use the RC Booster with the bass, treble and volume at 12:00 and the drive is only at about 8:00.. It's not doing much, just adding a little syrup...but you really notice it when it's off.

very cool man. nice clip. yes i have done tons of experiementing on stacking two OD pedals, not for the intention added for gain purposes but to try to capture a best of both worlds scenario. For instance, Im a huge fan of the grey DOD overdrive 250 pedal for the transparency and single note lead playing, however a tube screamer type pedal is essential to me for some compressed chunkety chunk rhythm mid-hump cutting through the mix sorta thing. with the right balance of levels and gain, i can achieve pretty killer results with these two in combo. The Fulltone FatBoost-3 also works well as substitute for the DOD which i only use the level control on and gain at zero.

BOSS-SD1/TS-9 is a great combo for 80's metal rock tones through a stock Marshall. ..again balancing out the levels. i have an EP-3 and im gonna try your approach as well.

I like the RC, but I haven't used it in a while. I've been using a Keeley Compressor more frequently for my cleans, or just turning down my mid gain sound with the volume knob. I may get a bigger pedal train this year, and then the RC will probably make it's way back to the board.

Same here, I'm not after a bunch of added gain. I like the added thickness with that bit of compression.
I've never tried the grey DOD overdrive 250...I bet I'd really dig it. I've heard lots of young men praise it.
