The only ones i could compare directly was Mesa and preferred the standard Traditional 4x12.

I had the Mesa oversized, and i prefer the standard Marshall.

Standard. I have a Marshall 1960B with GB's and a Marshall Mode 4 oversize with V30's. Maybe I just prefer the GB's but moving the Mode 4 is a PITA.

Not that you can buy them anymore unless you find one used, but I've compared the Mills Afterburner 412 and the Mills traditional sized 412 side-by-side and the oversized sounded a little better for what I liked. More full and thick. Lately though I just prefer the standard sized cabs. My Fryette FB cab appears to have a little less volume than my Diezel FL cab and I prefer it to the Diezel.

Such a tough one here. Too many variables and it depends.

I voted OS because I have the Mills OS cab and it is balls nasty. But idk, it is 116 pounds haha.

The MESA OS I thought was horrible......Until I used it with the JP2C and then it was like the missing link and sounded better than the Mills.

So it really all depends on your amp IMO. Could go much deeper down that rabbit hole too as we all know.

If I did not have the Mills I would have voted traditional and for most people in most situations I would say traditional is the way to go.

Both. I have one of each. A Trad. Mesa and an oversized Krank.

The more I look at this it appears oversized slant cabs don't have a lot more internal volume than a regular straight cab.

Definitely standard.

And please don't fall for the hype about the straight front 4x12 that it's "more focused, heavier sounding. . ." blah blah blah.
The slant front is more versatile and open sounding (not compressed), especially if this will be your only 4x12. And also, for rock/metal I've always preferred her loaded with the ubiquitous Celestion V30s - they never fail.

And trust me, Jay and Sarah lit up at the dart board won't notice the difference.

Good luck!

You want more volume, find a "more volume" guitar amp.

I had an Mesa OS for a long time. Now I have a standard size Friedman with greenback/V30s. The OS definitely can put our more bass and depending on the amp it is a great cabinet. With a Dual Rec, I could rattle the windows in my neighbor's house =D. The problem is that for a good mid range crunch, punch, cut through and focused gain I prefer a standard size cab. Still wouldn't mind owning an oversize again some day =D. I would go with a slant instead of straight just for the projection factor. (I had a straight)

There has been a lot of variations of 4x12 cabs. But in general most cabs are about ...

30x30x14.

Oversized cabs are..

33x30x14.

Basically oversized cabs are 3 inches taller.

Bravo on the arithmetic - well done my friend! :)

I had one of those conundrum cabs a long time ago when I had my PV510II. It always reminded me of a midget with a oversized forehead.

Standard. I have found oversized cabinets to exhibit a woofy character too easily in the lower mids with extended lows being problematic for recording or in a mix with bass. I actually prefer the 4x10 cabinets over a standard 2x12 for the same reason - super tight tracking and very percussive. Sadly there just aren't a lot of variations of the famous speakers we love in 12's also offered in 10's.

I posted a similar question several places on the internet. The normal cab is much more popular everywhere.

It depends. I like my Marks through my old half-back Mesa 4x12 (traditional size), it I like my Rectos through the OS cabinets. The only time I like my Marks through the OS cabs is when I’m playing through my Mark IV, and the mid-gain switch is selected.

-that KRANK cab has two major differences that make it a very unique sounding cab. it had to be professionally engineered & purpose built to be exactly what it is, one of the few sought after, sleeper cabs out there,..And you can still find them for $300--

-I prefer a big sound,
so I get big cabs-

-(theres no replacement for displacement)-I've never had the "woofy" issue and all my cabs are OS CABS...but then again, I'm a greenback guy,.. So..
