yeah so enough is enough with with the sales labels and capitalizing on forum legend, I am taking my 77 JMP 4 holer and having a CURTOMIA built. I am going to pump Curt for everything he remembers and using new Jose mod finds to make a real Atomica.

No Diodes.
Jose inspirered, no credit for anyone else or branded as such.
More on the lines of the Jose EVH mod and the Golden amp.

Should be fun!

Awesome! I have a slightly used blender and an old sewing machine laying around if you need extra knobs for it.

Cool, looking forward to hearing it Scott.

I may even on my dime send it to Curt for his take once it is done

Awesome Scott. Sounds like it's going to be an assripper.

How can this subject not be beaten to death and pulverized by now? I thought Ed was throwing Jose a bone? Apparently there are 2 or 3 diff Jose versions? Apparently his amps were holy grails sought out by men who travelled far and wide? C.C Deville even ordered a golden amp so he could get that "incredible" tone he got on the first Poison LP! Then there were the beefed up transformers and the he said/she said about getting that tone and it being too harsh without a beefed up transformer. Let's not forget the bypass caps witnessed by Dave F. and god knows who else. Then there is the question of the variac! Oh that variac! Then what about the re-amping? The DOD pedal! The GE-10! My Mind is EXPLOOOODING!

That said.. I'm on board, I love EVH threads to pieces......... the truth is out there gentlemen... it is probably outboard gear like mixers and clever engineering... but it is out there!

Quotes from Curt on Curtomica........................

My memory of the amp was that there was a single, added master volume on the back. I don't think it was even a a push/pull. I think Mark used to do a Low Gain/High Gain Jose that was switchable between the two with a push/pull master.

It was not a very high gain amp at all, but it did Van Halen very well. Anything more gainy than that, for example Lynch, DeMartini etc you had to boost it.

Well here's the thing.. would that not make it his diode clipping circuit built onto an additional volume on the back? I tried that with my plexi and it added a bit more fullness but no gain really. It worked better with a master volume... so really, was this then a PPMIV?

Second, that first VH album has plenty of gain enough to be in the Demartini lead catagory seeing as he essentially re-amped a small fender for his leads on Out of the Cellar and Invasion of your Privacy. VHII onward seems less gainy to my ears.It isn't as gainy as people think. When I compare Round and Round iso tracks to anything VHI, they are very comparable to my ears.

The added MV would add some gain, that would not be clipping.

Mark C. said the same thing about that pot on the back when the "It was a stock Marshall ramblings came up" He said then why is there a hole in the back of the amp if it was stock. He said it was returned to stock by probably Jose or someone else.

Not doing the work. I am not a builder like a Fortin, Diezel, or Peters. I let the pros do this stuff.

IN the 80s many men would have pumped Curt.

Ok let me see if I understand this correctly... You're going to mod your Marshall based on what Chubtone remembers about the outside of an amp and possibly what it sounded like?!

I see... Well... ok then...
