Staunch defenders of certain Brands...

how about some specifics? ;)

what I don't git is blind affiliation towards one brand. These dudes like to push separation into different camps. if a brand is good and I like it I use it juts because I have a Les Paul doesn't mean I don't like my strats. I play Fender, Charvel, Gibson, GMW etc

Slightly OT but I buy all my gear based on the attributes of the gear itself. I don't care if the builder/company is a nice guy(s) or an asshole, what country they're from or their political leanings, as long as they deliver the paid for product in a timely fashion, thats all that concerns me. It really confounds me how some people only want to deal with like minded people when purchasing their music related gear for their precious "art", but won't give a second thought to where their basic necessities like clothing, food, gas, oil, shelter, financial services, etc come from.

I buy my gear based solely upon the logo design and in some cases, the color combinations.

It's the Sheeple Principle, the crowd mentality, going with what the masses say in whatever "house" you're in at the moment.

How many of us have been steered into buying gear that has been touted on this forum?

With that being said. DSL rules.

I guess I should have clarified a little more, I was also referring to build quality along with design when I said POS, maybe substandard or inferior would have been a better word.

The point I was trying to make is that I judge things based on their own plus's and minuses rather than simply believing that every product by X is automatically awesome.

I remember people on another music forum going on and on about this movie, co-written and directed by this renowned director and how amazing it was. So I went and saw it and for me it was a giant POS, horrible acting, awful writing that contradicted itself, and galactic sized plot holes, etc. I went on to the forum and gave a very tactful criticism of the movie so other people reading would have a variety of opinions on which to decide about going to see it or not.

Well to say the least my opinion was unwanted by the guys who loved the director. "The guy was a genius", "hadn't I seen his other movies?", "you don't know what you're talking about". Were the types of comments I got back, I never slagged the director and have enjoyed other movies he's done, but it didn't alter my opinion that the movie was a POS.

I have to agree the DSL 100 UK old version is pretty awesome. Only a few amps beat it. And that is even subjective. With the mod to put the mode switches in a foot switch, it is. 4 channel amp.

I am pretty faithful to the Vagina brand.

At times the tone can get a little furry. Depending on how it's tuned it can be a bit loose or tight. I like mine biased hot.

All in all, it takes a lickin and keeps on kickin.

All other brands and products must earn my endorsement.

Movie appreciation is purely subjective. there is little subjectivity when it comes to BUILD quality of a tangible product. That being said. Diezel is the best.

There will be some subjectivity on the matter of build quality depending on who you're talking because there is no "mil standard" when it comes to amplifiers and also due to the fact that you get to a certain point and you're simply over engineering a product. There's nothing wrong with over engineering, nonetheless there's a point at which a widget is well built enough to be durable and reliable for normal use. Everything above that is beyond the point of diminishing returns.

I make this point because if X meets the required specs, it's not a POS simply because Y is over engineered to the point that it would survive a close range explosion.

Value engineering to reach optimal performance at a competitive price point is what I do on a daily basis.

Corporations able to do this task best can take the market....when properly managed.

Savage Pedal Boards, being more of a thing of art seem to be be somewhat outside of that engineering rule.

One day my MKIIC 1x12 combo will need a new box, and an extension 1x12.

Quality, reputation, appearance... I can see why one would defend the brand. All knob polishing aside.

Hell, I have a Harley. A brand associated with all kinds of things. I just like it. Who gives a solid shit about what anyone else thinks, unless you ride to 'be the image'.

And even then, it is still none of my business why someone buys something.

I am a Rhodes, Anderson, Suhr, Mesa fanboi.

Well not the MKV. I hate that thing...

harley has such a reputation...

It had some awful AMF years. Right now they seem good. The key is a maintained bike. I have had 3 Harleys and do the scheduled maint. Never had any issues. Old drinking buddies that ride em and never do the maint have issues.

But that is another love or hate brand for sure.

I wonder what would happen if someone went on a Friedman or Marshall trashing rant. There would be tables flipped and minds lost.

Whatever floats your boat, just don't sink the other guys floatin' your own I say

You dont know how many times I been duped into buying into hype.
My last purchase was caused by seeing this guy play live.
I sounded NOTHING like him. I felt I was hustled.
Good instrument though.

I think this is a compliment in which case, thank you, though I'm not sure I totally understand the point being made.

Yep, I get it too. Not to the point where no wrong can be done by said brand, because every brand has some level of defect whether it's a complete failure in the field or a blemish, but none are without some percentage of failure.

Agreed...

Exactly right, especially since I dial in every amp the same anyway. Bass at 10:00, Middle at 1:00, Treble at 11:00 and presence at 9:00.

I see your problem:
Bass 9:00 Mid 3:00 Treb 3:00 Presence may vary

No way. I have tested these settings twice and now use them on every amp. No setting may vary.

Hmmm now you have me second guessing what tone really is? My electrical components and wood could be all wrong. I will have to seal myself off in the cave and retrain my ears....

Oh all those wasted years....WHY Bob? WHY?????

Only us old silverbacks understand. Someday when you're old and gray, you'll get it.
