Is he leaving Carvin?

Carvin Audio went out of business.

Not surprised personally. I remember looking thru one of their catalogs back in the early 90s and they just haven't grown. I don't know if they are just bad at marketing or what the issue is but they could have been much more.

I think it's official...

He uses Fractal anyway. Cliff actually was at our venue with him setting up both his XL’s when he got them
Vai only use Fractal for effects, not amp models. Dave Wiener's recording room used to be full of Friedmans, PRSs, and Fryettes. Recently it became filled with Marshalls. I think That's a hint.

Vai's a biz savvy guy, I'm only assuming this stuff, but I would think he gets a bigger income from selling a lot of stuff for cheaper than he does lesser, more expensive items. The Legacy has been a fairly cheap amp and the JEM line has had more action in the Premium and Jr. lines than it has the MIJ lines. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Marshall head coming from him and nor would I be surprised if it were a single channel head. He's never used the clean channel on the Legacy's, he just rolls his volume back. I've got zero doubts they'd sell a shitload of Vai sig Marshall's if they went in the $9-1500 range, especially if they kept it as a single channel.

Bogner hasn't done any sigs, have they? Egnater would be a good possibility since he was using those along with Bogner's right up until the Legacy came out and they've also got some good heads for pretty low prices. Friedman was my first thought, but as I posted above, I really think he'll be going for something with a consumer-friendly price.

I'm hoping for a Marshall head. Single channel or not, I think they could do something really cool and we'd essentially be getting something similar to a Jose Marshall.

If they could release an amp that could capture his DLR tones, that would be wicked.

I'd agree - Marshall would make sense, but he's had a long relationship with Reinhold. That said, Vai could play anything and sound like Vai. It probably really doesn't matter that much to him beyond the endorsement $$$.

I also think it'll be a large company and not a boutique thing. So Marshall, Peavey, even Fender, something along those lines.

I spent a couple hours with Steve just lately, at his studio, he was interested in trying MEZZABARBA amps, i brought him a Z35 head and a MzeroOverdrive head, he is been using them , along other amps ( he has a few heads set-up-ready to go, on a wall-like piece of forniture ) I did ask about hooking up with a new amp company, he told me that he was getting calls from many people, did not know what he was going to do next yet. He has kept the MEZZABARBA amps so far.

Just curious, how does one get to just spend some time with Vai in his studio?

Ben Fargen designed the original Legacy , perhaps he'll go in that direction .

I would like to see a Bogner partnership, as I thought that his Bogner tone was his best. Seeing that he has been using the Fender in unison with his Carvin head for years now, I could also see a Fender partnership, ala EVH, as they have the capital to do something on that scale.

The Fender combo was just for a tour he had done, hasn't been back in the rig since.

I also agree about his Bogner tones. ALS is almost all Bogner (my buddy John owns the 101B that Vai used on it, when John got it, it came with a note mentioning which songs it was used on) and it's just a beautiful guitar tone across that album. But again, Bogner doesn't seem to do the sig thing and being that Vai's probably just as popular now as he was in the late 80's/P&W era thanks to YouTube and the burst of technically gifted youngsters, I really don't see him doing anything unless he can sell it for under $2K.

Expecting this as well.

Well, Peavey did the JSX and they're buddies, so maybe...

Well, for one thing, i live literally 5 min from Steve's house/studio, and i know him because we go to the same neighbor's coffee shop, where i met him while we were standing in line and...asked him for a record deal, witch he gave me!! ( He set me up with his people from his record label, witch did check my stuff/guitar playing and sign me/released one of my cd's ) But technically, it was a connection via Satriani/Cliff from Destroy all Guitars, Satriani was using the MEZZABARBA amps and Steve wanted to check them out as well. I ended up spending extra time with Steve, talking about Spiritual stuff ( Universe-Meditation ) and i asked for advice for my musical career, witch he gave me.

I believe it was the Legacy II that he worked on if I’m not mistaken.
