nothing to be confused about.

look guys like mark K., chubtone, 70strathead, van hellion, kagey, ralph, flyingangus, alex fluoros, mondoslug, scott l., zachman, rockstah, john p, carl, eddie d,

these are guys that have chops and tone that make me sit up and take notice, and add clout to their words because of who there are as players.
so if one of them says check out this vai moment that rocks, i pay attention, even though i may ultimately disagree.

but to say everything vai does is gold is not realistic.

like if someone comes up to you and says sesame street is their favorite tv show, you start questioning their decision making skills and life experience.

Damn.... I didn't make your "golden list". At least I know my opinions don't matter anymore. Thanks for clarifying....

Un-fucking-real....

I've always dug this song.....but the drama in this thread, Although, I do respect the opinions that each contributor has given to this thread.

Your opinion is irrelevant. Just ask Pat. I don't see your name in his "golden list" either...

Steve

you (couple) people really need to get over the fact that normal people don't give a shit about the things that guitar players care about, including technique, tone, shred, and chops

Since I like music and not just guitar, I find Vai very entertaining. Just for the record, shred or chops do nothing for me. I listen to songs

I don't think I'd make anyone's "grocery" list when it comes to tone or technical skill.... :D Maybe a scribble on a cocktail napkin, though.

in the dvd he explains that the sinth was added @ the ediing process, to make the feedback more coherent

How about me? I can't play for shit, but I'm an opinionated asshole. You won't get me banned from RT, will ya? ;)

Not really up to me, man - you'll have to ask Pat. With his experience and expertise, he'll easily be able to determine whether your opinion on a purely subjective manner warrants any consideration.

;)

I'll toss my unsolicited 2 cents in...
I became a huge Vai fan when I heard the soud page with Attitude Song in GP mag right before he joined Alcatrazz. As a matter of fact I though Flex-Able was one of the coolest things I've ever heard this side of Axis or Band Of Gypsies.
That said starting with Passion And Warfare I started to feel very much like Pat about Vai. And my big bitch was that I thought everything was worked out. Fast forward to December 2 years ago when I saw him with Zappa Plays Zappa....yeah he still acts like he's Diana Ross on stage...but the audience eats it up. His playing with ZPZ was so shit hit it wasn't even funny. My advice for any one not hating Vai..get that DVD.

that sums it up pretty well for me  I used to worship the guy but somewhere along the way, he lost me. I have all the respect in the world for his immense talent, influence and uniqueness but most things after ALS dont do it for me much anymore( however, I do hear something that I like every now and then)

Back when I was a Vai freak, I didnt think much of Satch but now, Im not so much into Vai and prefer Satch... go figure...

His quirkiness and goofiness does annoy me a bit but it doesnt factor into how I view his music, its pretty irrelevant..

Awesome! We finally have two opinions that matter. Pat will be so pleased!
