Sorry for all the amp comparison threads lately guys but I'm looking and I'm tired of buying and selling.

SO what are your thoughts on a Bogner twin jet. I play mostly hair metal/progressive type music with some classic rock thrown in.
I never looked into these amps before because they are hyped for super agressive down tuned music. However after listening to a couple of vids I see they can do a whole lot more. My concern is that with only 2 channels I won't have the onstage versatility to come off of some of the gain without adjusting the amp. This is why I'm leaning toward the non reverb shiva . I can do the pedal mod and get different amounts of gain with the push of a button .
How do these compare to the 20th shiva BTW

Before someone goes down the modded marshall road, I'm at the end of that road. I much prefer the more modern-sounding amps. At some point I may try another Friedman but I doubt it.

Have you tried a Mesa Mark? IV, JP or a real 2C+ have a modern tone IMO and are a change up to what you have now.

Did you hear that guys? He said "I'm tired of buying and selling". I suggest we move for an immediate dismissal from this forum as he is obviously a cyborg...

Hey, have you thought about an ENGL Blackmore? The dude in Power Trip plays one and I actually almost got one years ago at the suggestion of DerekB, back when he was selling amps. Never had one but supposedly they can cover a ton of ground.

I'm a pretty organized person when making decisions and do a ton of research on everything from cars to guitars before I buy. I know it sounds lame but I usually make a list. On one side, I'll list things I DON'T want. Normally that knocks a ton of things off the table immediately. Then I'll have the ones I'm considering on the right. Based on that list, I'll look at price, versatility, history of shit breaking, popularity, etc., etc. By the time I'm done, I'm stuck on one thing and obsessing over it.

Think about conveniences too. How hard is it to get to the tubes? Ease of biasing? Stuff like that.

I don't think the twin jet is what you are looking for. It sounds like you are looking for something similar to what you had in the Mezzabarba you got rid of. What doesn't the VH4 do for what you said you are seeking?

Maybe KSR, everyone describes them as Modern Metal Machines. I think in the vein of that Mezabarba you had but heavier. There are alot of people on here who have had them or still own them.

Your sig is screaming for a modded Marshall: Gower, Monomyth, Fortin, Morin, etc...

I'm actually looking at an engl invader II .

The VH4 is killer, no complaints. Just looking for something different and possibly smaller that will fit on my 2x12 slant . Of corse the size isn't a deal breaker

Try the new 50 watt EVH Stealth?

I was trying to understand sound wise, tone wise, gain wise, saturation wise, etc what you were looking for that the VH4 didn't cover. For rock, classic rock, hair metal etc I would think the VH4 would be fantastic so from that perspective I was asking what the VH4 isn't giving you that you feel you want in something else?

I was thinking the same thing. 50watt EVH of some sort.
You are going to have issues getting any kind of lower gain tone from a Twin Jet. The low gain channel has modded 800 levels of gain, and channel 2 is just more insanity. Great amp, but I don't think it fits the bill here.
Also, was going to suggest a Bogner 3534, but you already own one

any bands or albums with a similar tone to what you are looking for? not many people want modern tones for hair metal and classic rock

I have been looking at a couple Blackmore's that have popped up for sale recently. Also the 5153 Stealth's. I really like the JJ Jr I picked up recently but it has me thinking that I was dialing in my DSL a bit thin and bright to fit in a mix better. The JJ Jr sounds much thicker and bigger.

So I bought an engl invader II . I was digging the clips I found and they had a used one at GC. I figure if I don't love it I can take it back.

I'm also trading my SLO for a Carol Ann triptik II. So theres a 100w head that will fit on my 2/12 slant.
Now I have 4 heads and room for 2 . If I stack them in the bedroom (which is where they stay cause thats where I practice ) No one will be able to see the TV.
Oh well TV is overated anyway,

Thanks for the help .

I am so out of the loop on the ENGL stuff these days. I used to own a Fireball and was a great amp but I think the Blackmore would have been more of my sound.

I'm trying to remember where the Invader kind of sits in the ENGL line. Isn't it a heavier sounding amp but not as brutal as a Powerball?

an engl seems like a good choice for what you were describing

I was also going to suggest an Engl Powerball 2. Maybe even a SE if you can find at deal on one. I'm not a fan of the Invader. My least favorite Engl. Try a few other models before you pass final judgement on all of them.
