Don’t overlook the Marshall JVM. For some reason , they’ve gotten a bad rep , but they are my favorite high gain amp , by a long shot.

when did this become such a common theme?? i never remember hearing much about engl build quality until recently where it seems to be brought up every time an engl is mentioned. dont think ive seen any "broken engl" threads. is there something specific that blows up or something?

I think most comments indirectly refer to the way the pcbs are constructed and mounted & maybe quality of some of the components as opposed to people having problems. It's more a fear of: if a problem arises it may be difficult or expensive finding a tech to make a repair.
I've owned 3 Engls in the past with zero issues.
well thats encouraging. I hope its not a POS and if it is I hope it shows during the 45 day return period.Fordman65":3fhgiwr0 said:MetalHeadMike":3fhgiwr0 said:RaceU4her":3fhgiwr0 said:Fordman65":3fhgiwr0 said:Too bad Engl's are built for shit.

Nah, I give a shit about hand wired vs PCB. I've owned 2 Powerball 1s and an SE EL34. The red LEDs burnt out on the 1st PB. The 2nd PB kept blowing fuses, so I returned it. The SE, eventhough advertised as being able to handle 6L6s, couldn't handle the extra voltage. Granted it's been 10 years since I've owned any of them, so I suppose improvements could have been made. I won't touch them though.

I'm also trading my SLO for a Carol Ann triptik II. So theres a 100w head that will fit on my 2/12 slant.
Now I have 4 heads and room for 2 . If I stack them in the bedroom (which is where they stay cause thats where I practice ) No one will be able to see the TV.
Oh well TV is overated anyway,
Thanks for the help .
I am so out of the loop on the ENGL stuff these days. I used to own a Fireball and was a great amp but I think the Blackmore would have been more of my sound.
I'm trying to remember where the Invader kind of sits in the ENGL line. Isn't it a heavier sounding amp but not as brutal as a Powerball?

I really don't know where it sitss in the line up I'm not really very familiar with Engl. I just watched some clips and was really digging the tonz. I know it seems like a stupid way to pic an amp but like I said . I can take it back and I got a good deal on it .

No I don't use a boost.I feel like for what I pay for an amp it should get the tone I want unboosted

thats just kind of silly in my opinion man and probably the one thing that is holding you back. guys of all genres have been boosting their expensive amps with $50 boosts since the dawn of distortion. ill guarantee if you boosted the engl with a ts9 or sd1 it wouldnt be sounding sterile.

I understand why people don't want use boosts/ODs in front of expensive amps but I couldn't get the response I like for metal tones without one. I've had guys basically call me an idiot for using an OD to boost my Wizard and say I'm ruining the tone, but boosted it's the sound/feel I've always wanted. The only amp I've ever owned that I preferred unboosted for metal tones is the Savage 120 (Engl FB100 close 2nd). The other 30 or so amps I've owned have absolutely needed an OD smacking the front for me to be happy.
