That's basically what I'm saying ;) Mark (Rockstah)posted all the information on the Metro site, so If someone was smart enough to pay attention then No harm no foul . You can't share stuff freely and then get pissed off at people for using the information just because one day you decide to charge money for it IMHO.

Just a FYI, He most definitely posted a picture of the MOD 5 either directly or indirectly. He used to have links to all of his tweaks posted in his signature on Metroamp. If you ever clicked on any of the numerous pictures that he posted links to, it was there plain as day.Or you could go to his sig and click on Rocktah tweaks and mods and bam.... There they were.
Id gather he has since taken them down.

With all this said, I still think that he will make money with the mod because not all of us are handy. If I wanted that sound, Id send Mark my amp in a heartbeat, but there are so many other amps out now that I feel cover that tone, that there is no need for me to and I'm kind of done with that sound......... I am picking up a Metro 12xxx, and having it modded w/ Rocktah's Mod5 tweaks, done by Jerry Dyer.

The amp is a Metro 12xxx series head. It has a white headbox with a Mercury Magnetics OT and vintage Sozo Caps, JJ pre-amps & Mullard re-issue power tubes. It also has a PPIMV, already installed.

The other amp I was considering, just didn't feel right-- after seeing the meh condition and the price the seller was asking, seemed too high. I am excited to get this thing cranking.

Woo Hoo
Why don't you get it and play some Halen through it before you turn it into a 2203 (preamp) with lowered filtering? I have basically the same amp built by George with the PPIMV and I am getting GREAT Van Halen tones with it stock. Personally, I recommend you play it first before spending any more cash and I bet Jerry would agree with me...

Steve

Im hooking him up at a fraction of what the other dude charges for it if ya know what I mean. If it already has the PPIMV then that price will be dropped even lower. Ill take care of him trust me. Ask some of the other guys. I work cheap for my bros.
Oh, I'm sure of that, I just don't think it is necessary to hack it up to get the tone he wants...

ok check it out.. The Mod 5 is , lower the filtering in the PI. Change it to a 2203, maybe, I say Maybe if needed bypass the 10k on v1b, add a PPIMV ... done... how he can cal lthis his mod is beyond me. Besides the clips you hear are all doctored up. Ever heard a dry one with JUST THE AMP? nope................ I do the mods from a players standpoint and Im really cheap. no hype just simple mods at fair price.

I agree about the doctoring, it's reverb city
It's the playing and the reverb getting people all worked up, not the mod itself. A 12000 with either a light boost or a higher output pickup would sound just as good with the right playing and reverb... In fact, people were shitting themselves over his non-cascaded stock plexi clips before this mod... If you can play in that style and know how to produce it, you don't need a cascade... the PPIMV or other way of cutting the violence of a cranked 100W Marshall is the only essential ingredient of the mod...

Can the cascade be switchable in/out via a push pull pot? I am only guessing yes, but don't know for sure. If yes, then the option seems like a good one. What are your thoughts???

In the old days ('79 or'80) w/ an old 4 input JMP Super Lead w/ a master volume on the back, and w/ the Peacemaker-- I used a LPB2 to slam the front end and had ultra successful results.

It could be switchable with an additional toggle for sure, but it's gonna be a lot more complicated. However... Dude - you know I know this tone. Get the amp, put a Badgerplex in front (optional really) and a El Capistan in the loop, plug into the top left input, crank the Volume I to 8-9, set the PPIMV to prevent ear bleeding and you are THERE! No need for a cascade unless you are looking for other more gainy tones...

Schaf
Well then, allow me to give up the "secret":

1) buy a stock 12 series super lead or equivalent
2) convert the preamp to 2203 spec (cascade the first two stages, put a 10k on the second stage instead of the 330u/820)
3) lower the filtering (40uF mains, 16uF screens, 16uF PI, dual 32uF preamp.)
4) put in a LarMar PPIMV
5) Dime the preamp gain and master you now have and adjust the PPIMV to taste for overall volume....

Congratulations, you're browned for about $20-30 in parts and some soldering time + the cost of the stock Marshall or Metro you bought... In general this will work with any Super Lead style amp 100 or 50 watt - you're just doing a 2204 cascade on a 50 watt...

As I said, thisinfo is in a thread at metro to this day, so I feel I am doing nothing wrong by posting this. It is public record...

If you can play in that style and know how to produce it, you don't need a cascade... the PPIMV or other way of cutting the violence of a cranked 100W Marshall is the only essential ingredient of the mod...

Steve

Can the cascade be switchable in/out via a push pull pot? I am only guessing yes, but don't know for sure. If yes, then the option seems like a good one. What are your thoughts???

In the old days ('79 or'80) w/ an old 4 input JMP Super Lead w/ a master volume on the back, and w/ the Peacemaker-- I used a LPB2 to slam the front end and had ultra successful results.
It could be switchable with an additional toggle for sure.

Steve

Thanks buddy, I knew I could count on a cool answer from you. There is no loop in this one, but I'll mostly be running it in the w/d/w rig, so that's a non-issue. The gainier tones are a nice option that I think will come in handy, and fits in w/ my personal philosophy of preferring to have more and not need it, then to need more and not have it.

Seriously, why get it hacked up to a 2203 until you hear and feel the raw power of the 12000. So Jerry does Rockstahs mods now? Rockstah yelled at Steve about copying his VH mod on the internet about this I do recall. I would feel a bit better sending it out to Jerry though, if he indeed does the same mod, Rockstah was recently pulling Cameronisms with men.
Yup and for the record, he was bummed at me me for saying I would tell people who were begging for their amps and money back when he was unresponsive how to do the mod. Which he really shouldn't care about since there still exists a thread on metro that spells it out EXACTLY. Someone also posted gut shots of one here when trying to sell it. I never saw a thread on metro with schems and layouts. Finally, I never copied that mod in an amp for myself or performed it for others. I have shared exactly what the mod is though... I see no harm in that since it is public record to this day on metro...

Steve

That's basically what I'm saying ;) Mark (Rockstah)posted all the information on the Metro site, so If someone was smart enough to pay attention then No harm no foul . If he is going to get pissy about it, then he really does not have a leg to stand on as he is to blame for leaking the info.

(only at this point in time... That could change in the future LMAO :D ) ;)

Funny, he was busting your balls for this. I saw a thread on TGP where he was begging for a gut shots of a Cameron. When the person refused, he was saying how people helped each other out on the Metro forum, that it's no secret, and on and on. The when it come to his mod (or whatever), it's a big secret and wouldn't give up the goods.

Steve

What is the distinction of "LarMar PPIMV"?

The "TAG" of RT

I would play it first as well, you have modded marshalls already.

I hear you... but knowing that the Mod does what I like (Even with the processing in all of the clips-- I have all the gear to make that happen too), and having the ridiculous shipping costs to/from Hawaii, and having the cascade switchable in/out... I figure it makes sense to get it done.

Well I certainly Didn't want to piss Mark off. I think that he is a good guy and a good player. I'm merely pointing out that if He didn't want the Mod 5 spec out, he should have kept it a secret and called it a day from the beginning. These days I am trying to approach everything from a logical perspective and Logic tells me that you CANNOT get pissed off at someone for using something that you FREELY posted on the internet.

Making the cascade switchable is gonna be a bitch. It will require much more than just a toggle. Trust me, my amp basically can be switched between a stock superlead and a cascade and it requires a lot. You can't do this without a lot of additional circuitry... It can be done, but it is a lot more difficult, time consuming and expensive...
