Strat pickups - on the hunt

Cheers for the suggestions, looks like I have a bit of research to do.

The other pickup swap I’m thinking is a P90-sized humbucker for an LP Custom. Not sure if these exist, or this just means a mini-humbucker?

Dimarzio and TV Jones are the only winders I know of that make soapbar mount HB's that aren't Minis or FB type pickups.

A TV Jones Powertron or Powertron+ would probably be an awesome pickup in there. Very PAFish, with some extra Filtertron upper midrange kerrang thrown on top. I had a regular sized Powertron in the bridge a '78 SG Custom, and it absolutely ripped. If only it didn't have a super narrow nut I never would've sold it.

So far I have had their Powertron, Magnatron, Supertron, and T-Armond pickups, and all of them have sounded spectacular. I currently have the Supertron in the neck of a LP Studio, and the T-Armond in the neck of a 61ri SG Std.

I don't think you can use a mini humbucker without using some sort of spacer. If you can find some Biltoft HS-90's used those are a decent p-90 for a 'bucker rout. I had them in a V years ago and they were nice. I later ordered an overwound version and it was harsh sounding. He folded up shop after hurricane Helene damaged his place so used is your only option there.

Otherwise I'd take a look at Lollar. Everything they make seems to be a cut above but not cheap either. Haven't tried them their standard 90 sounds excellent. The Novel 90 fits in a humbucker rout.

Interesting idea - I don't think I've ever tried a Filtertron type in a Gibson. I sold my White Falcon recently so this could be a cool option.

Thanks man but it's the opposite I'm looking for - HB in a P90 route.

I’ve got an older Nash with Fralin vintage hots, to my ears it sounds like rock & roll strat tones straight outta the box.

I like the Duncan YJM Fury set quite a bit. Built for clear boost, but can still do great Strat cleans.

If going the EMG route, Steve Lukather SLV set.

Klein makes some very good traditional super sparkly Strat sets (approved by cork sniffers), but you may be accused of turning to the Tan Side of the Force by association. o_O

Pribora Classics would fit the bill.

I initially assumed they were vintage output without being as bright and thin, but after swapping them out for the EJ pickups that are definitely vintage-voiced and far more period correct regarding output, I realized the Pribora’s were quite a bit beefier than I initially assumed.
