Strymon El Capistan?

So for long time users, how does the Strymon still stack up?

I want a delay pedal that has reverb functionality and Dave F recommended the EQD Dispatch Master. Only issue with the latter is that I can't find a single demo of straight ahead, 1 note repeat delay with huge verb. Every demo is nothing ambient music.

I also heard that the Captain sucks in an effects loop.

Thoughts please!

Domenic,

The El Capistan is the closest thing you can get to a real Echoplex in my opinion (I've owned them) and I've had mine since they first came out. As far as I'm concerned if people say it sucks in the loop, then maybe the loop in that amp sucks. I used the El Cap in the loop when I demoed my amp line at the LA Amp Show and people loved the way it sounded. It sounds great up front or in the loop.

Whoever said the El Cap sucks in the loop needs to go for a hearing exam. It's an awesome all around pedal and sounds great in the loop.

Everyone has an opinion.

I've been stuck on this pedal for three years.

Played a healthy EP3 too and that's why I'm excited.

Have you also tried the Catalinbread Echorec?

I had one and thought the El Cap was a much better pedal.

Once I got the El Cap I stopped looking at echo stuff... Put a Badgerplex Pre in front of the amp set for a bit of Echoplex-like boost and the El Cap in the loop and I defy anyone to hear a difference against an actual Echoplex. And without the hassles of an actual tape...

I want another El Cap to put out front and then use another delay in the loop. The El Cap is great in the loop but out front on clean tones is simply sounds orgasmic. Just listen to Pete Thorn's YouTube demo.

I'm just gonna take the plunge.

It sounds bitchin' and has everything I'd want in a delay pedal.

Gonna put a Clinch EP in front of this too.

Yep, I stopped looking for delays once I got the El Cap. It's in the loop and sounds great!

Agreed...my quickrod has one thing in the loop. The El Cap. It rocks in the loop. I leave it at one setting and it is always on. I play kinda Alice in Chains style in my band so i have it set up for more reverb than delay. I love it.

...plus with the new smaller Tap/Fav switch, your
getting two delays from one pedal.

And to the El Cap in the loop.
Its a keeper

Holy shit that thing sounds like 'the end of search' delay.....

I've played probably 200+ pedals. I'd say the El Capistan is one of the 10 best pedals I've played. It's simply gorgeous. Sounds great in front or in the loop.

If you buy one new check out Rogue Guitars, Eddies, etc.. you can find them for around 290 shipped.

Next pedal on my list after a Musket Fuzz....... stinkin G.A.S.

Pete's demo with his Marsha was what I'm going for.

Wicked cool pedal.

Is this yours man? If so, very very nice! Little bit 'o cash wrapped up in that board!

I also have an El Cap. Great pedal indeed.

I will pick one of these up in the fall to see how it works for leads in the loop.
