If I mainly play hard rock (read mid to high gain most of the time) would the timeline wasted on my board? I have heard some great demos of this delay with clean sounds, but I have't really heard any with hard rock tones. While I do enjoy good clean ambient tones, 90% of my time is spent on the dirty channel of my amp. I'm currently running two Hardwire DL-8 pedals on my board for different settings. The thought of just using one pedal with different presets sounds appealing, but I'm not sure if the TimeLine would be the best fit. I loved being able to get different delay sounds when I was running rack gear. Anyway... thoughts appreciated.

I've got the El Capistan on my board. For lead delays I much prefer using my carbon copy. I tend to use the Strymon only for cleaner tones. I find i lose a lot of the character of the pedal when I run it through higher gain sounds & it gets a bit busy & compressed. It's a tape delay emulator mind so is legitimately a different type of delay to my Carbon Copy & not a replacement.

I say go for it. For sure you'll be able to dial in the sounds you're getting from your current delay pedals & have all the other awesome sounds with it.

The Timeline is awesome... maybe too awesome. If you're questioning your need for such a comprehensive delay, then get the El Capistan. It's the best sounding Strymon delay in my opinion. The Boss DD-500 is also extremely good, a little easier to fool with, and has some cool effects you can't get on the Timeline.

I use my Timeline through the front of my amp most of the time. It always sounds good, but if I need to really get the sound right, it has to go through the FX loop. I kind of regret getting the Timeline because I only ever use the echo setting that's really just the El Capistan, but if I ever want to do anything more, the at least the functionality will be there.

Wampler Faux Echo is damned good. The best analog delays in my opinion are made by Maxon (AD999 & 9) and Diamond (Memory Lane & Jr.). You should take some time and explore them.

The Timeline is probably the best sounding and most versatile delay out there. Ive had mine for about 5 years now. But, the only reason I have it on my board is because I also play in the band at my church weekly. If it wasn’t for those ambient sounds at church I would not be using it. It’s complete overkill for what you need it for.
