All I think I will ever use is delay, chorus, something that can put out some weird sounds like a dunlop rotovibe ( if you can think of something better have at it haha ) and maybe something like a tube screamer? Oh and a good reverb pedal!

Suggest whatevaa haha!

Currently I am set on the EHX Deluxe Memory Man for delay. Sounds the best to my ears. But if you know of other analog delays let me know what you think.

I would only use chorus for the clean channel.

Something like the rotovibe would be used with a wah on any channel to make some just insane noises and ambient effects.

I'm not really into multi effect units and I don't care how much it costs really.

Oh and duh! What is a good midi pedal? Something ( hear me out on this cause I know nothing of them ) that has like a a seperate button for each channel then each channel with their effect sends then a button for send 2 and a button for mute... I don't know if that makes sense so I drew a picture haha! For the picture the second row of buttons means each channels seperate channel inserts.

I say keep it simple.
Get what I have.
A compressor
An overdrive/dirt pedal/boost
A chorus/phaser/some modulation (your rotovibe idea is great)
A delay (memory man is too big for me)
A Reverb

Anything else is icing on the cake

Oh yeah! I totally agree with that! I love keeping it simple! Especially because I get confused easily...

what are your recommendations on brands?

Oh haha I think I watched your video on youtube of you demoing your VH4? I recognize your set up. Could be wrong though.. but if it is yours, thank you for helping me in a very wonderful decision in buying a VH4!

I use no overdrive on my VH4S, it does enough of that on its own. I do use my Mk.4:23 Pro boost on the 2nd Channel to add some character. I use the Eventide TimeFactor in the loop to add girth.

That's about it...

YMMV,
Mo

Reza's the man... There's a number of options one can look at. Basically, if you want to employ a number of stomps without chaining them altogether, or have some in a loop or out of a loop, serial or parallel, etc., you'll need a switching looping system. It'll save on all the tone/signal loss for everything in front of the amp; to an extent. Problem is, it's an engineering project - you need to know what goes where. You'll need a switcher, loop station, and the proper cable routings. Not saying it's impossible, it's totally doable, but you'll need to know what goes where before you commence buying stuff to make it happen. The switcher/loop station works together with a MIDI footcontroller (take a look at Voodoo Labs to get an idea of the set up...). I know Reza uses RJM gear but man, Reza's JOB is his music, so be aware of the fact this can get costly.

At the end of the day, I have a mess of quality, boutique pedals. I choose to use them VERY sparingly with my VH4S due to the fact the VH4S comes complete with gobs of asskicking tone. I don't need phaser or chorus, I rarely use 'verb, my wah is in front in the form of a Clyde Deluxe, I use my TimeFactor in the parallel loop and control it with the Columbus. That's it. If ever I use my PitchFactor, that too is in front.

Peace,
V.

PS - I've got some smaller combos that are my shit-kickers... Because they're my shit-kickers I load them up with my OD's, my boosts, my 'verbs, chorus/phase/modulation, dirts, compressors, etc. Kinda like make-up on an ugly chick, you know??

MXR phaser and flanger are a must for me. a good fuzz can be fun on a clean channel, and nice for leads on gain.

To me, keeping it simple is 1 multi effect unit. But to each his own.

Based on your stated needs, I would suggest Eventide Timefactor and Modfactor.

These do sound terrific with the Diezel loops and quality of tone.

Furthermore, your choice to step on 'em or run 'em with a MIDI controller. Pictch in front, Mod in front or in loop, and Time in loop... Brilliant shit :D

Id like to jump in as well and did not want to open the 10th "I need some effects"-thread ;)

Basically I would like to add some color to my clean tone of my Herbert.
For example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZ9HLgZgvNk
has cool clean tones. I like my distortion without any effects.

I have heard good things about the eventide-products and I would like to have something midi-switchable.
Which of them would I need to achieve similar results to that video?

And do I have to place it in front of the amp or in the loop? Thanks for your help

 That was my Herbie with Line6 XT Pro. I like its effects and prefer XT Pro over g-major and Boss GT-10...

Then you can tell me which effects you used for that cool clean sound?

Would be nice :)

Sure... Sine Chorus (it has a bit flanger in it), Analog Delay and Large Hall Reverb. Signal goes thru the switchable loop. Bybass the XT's preamp and it still color the clean sound a bit but in a good way IMO...

So I would need the TimeFactor and the ModFactor to cover that ground?

I had an Pod xt live before but want something with true bypass ;-)

I tried a G System last year - great effects but when it was set on the bypass-patch it took away a lot of Herberts aggressiveness... too much if you play mainly heavy riffs and metal

@DvE: For that clean tone, you will also need a mahogani guitar with emgs or an additional eq (boost at 800-1400 Hz). Also are you sure you want to spend almost a 1000 bucks, just for true bypass? on the other hand peter stapfer told me: "you wouldn't drive a ferrari with old vw tires."

@pirre81: Did you get 2 modulation-effects at once out of the pod xt pro or is there an additional effect-processor? and thanks again for discovering the JH-clean-tone!
Ps: what happened to your herb?!

I use those pod xt pro´s effects at once. I sold the Herbie because I needed the money to buy a new VH4 blueface. I'm not a millionaire  ;)

@Kev: Thanks for the input =)
I will buy used, you can get them for around 250 at ebay ;-)

And it is not necessary to have them here tomorrow. I rather spend some more money and dont have to worry about this any more... did so with my Herbert, a lehle d loop, a furman power conditioner, vovox cables, etc
