I had a Suhr Aldrich bridge pickup a few months ago in my Les Paul. I didn't really care for it, as I thought it was just too much. Too much of everything. The pickup didn't seem to clean up very well, and was a bit bottm heavy for my liking. With that said, every time I see a clip of Dough, I want to buy another Suhr Aldrich pickup. I'm temped to bite the bullet and buy another one in hopes that I may like the pickup this time... but on the other hand this seems like a waste of money.... what do you think?
Why not just try the 500T...both of my Les Pauls are loaded with that pickup and I quit trying new ones out. I'd always come back to them in those particular guitars. In general I'm not a fan of ceramics but for some reason the 500T sounds and feels great in my Les Pauls. Just another option.

I think I'm going to go with a Suhr SSH+. I had a DSH+ in the guitar about a year ago, and really like the pickup 99%. It was just a tad too dark. I'm thinking that the single row of screws on the SSH will be brighter than the double row of the DSH. If so, I will have found my pickup. I loved the mids on the DSH, just was wanting a bit more top end. According to the Suhr website, this should be what I get from the SSH+. I'll let you guys know once I have it in and installed.

you could try the non plus version then
from what I understand, the Aldrich already is a SSH+ with a bit more bite

I don't have an Aldrich in my Les Paul but i do have two in my Suhr Modern and i love them, plenty of bark and growl and sustain and they clean up beautifully rolling the volume down, great pups.

get the Aldrich in a Suhr Modern and you won't be sorry. I think different guitars respond differently to these pups, then add amps and effects into the equation and its anyone's guess as to why they like or dislike them. I do know what you mean about "boomy" but I have a lot of variation between the tone controls on the modules of my RM100, then the presense and density controls as well. takes a bit to dial it in, but once its there...

Good luck in your search

I just put the Cold Sweats in my LP - Kicks ass.

I have a new Aldrich in the box, black if any one wants one.

I can vouch for coldsweats sounding awesome in LP's and similar guitars, they work amazingly well. Was not a fan of them in a basswood 7 i used to own, especially the neck pickup. In 24.75' scale guitars with mahogany bodies they are fantastic, they are also awesome for low tunings and seem to be popular with some folk using 8-strings on other forums.

Can you compare the Aldrich and Cold Sweats? If not, can you describe the Cold Sweats in more detail (like how hot, eq, smooth/crunchy, etc)?

+1 for this, I am really interested in those two pups for a Les Paul as well!!!

Well, the Aldrich and Cold sweat were in 2 different guitars, but the Aldrich is muddier to my ears. Not as dynamic. It is well balanced, but doesn't have the articulation of the CS. Maybe a touch more gain and compression.

The CS replaced a 2nd degree and just killed it. Not just my opinion, there were 3 other well schooled guys that heard it and all agreed instantly. CS in the LP very balanced, articulate, smooth, sweet mids and highs. Brought the LP to life. Low end for days. Haven't tried them in anything else.

Has anybody tried them in a basswood body???
I have one in a basswood. I have 3 guitars with them now. I really like the aldrich. To me it sounds like a JB but m ore of it.

In basswood it sounds great. My fav guitar is my basswood strat. Grindy like all pups in basswood
