Suhr Koko boost vs Majix Box - Aldrich rocket fuel

Yep, Santa brought me Koko boost for Christmas! :D

I've been A/B'n these two boxes all morning and I hear some distinct differences. I can't say one is better than the other ... just different. Here's my take.

Koko Boost - Very transparent boost. I always thought the RF (Rocket Fuel) was the most transparent box I've heard but the Koko is more so. I love the way it pushes the amp and gives me more volume, gain and tightens up every thing. The mid boost side is also very cool. It keeps the basic character of my amp but adds boost in there selectable frequency ranges with what ever level I want.

Rocket Fuel - This box is pretty transparent too, however, it does color the tone a bit more than the Koko. That's not necessarily a bad thing. The color it does add (OD side) seems to warm the amp up some and take the edge off a bit. On some songs that's a good thing...on others it takes away from the bite that may be needed. I'd also like to mention that the boost side seems to add a little high end frequency. That's cool for that Strat or Tele sound but it's a little too much for an LP type tone.

All in all, If I had to pick one or the other I'd pick the Koko Boost. It just works better for my needs...but not by a whole bunch. Both boxes are pretty cool and I'll keep and use both depending on the application.

Yep...I love my new Koko!!!

I have the Koko...love it!! Also have the Creation Audio Lab mk 4.23.. love it and awesome, simple design, cool looking, clean boost!! Most transparent I've heard. Never used the boost much on my koko but loved the mid boost when I had my PT100.. adds so much extra color to the leads..they sing. Congrats

I haven't tried the Rocket but heard good things..and feedback very similar to yours.

Cool..

I haven't heard of the Creation Audio Lab mk 4.23. I'll have to check that one out. :D

Thanks for the post. I've been searching the two pedals in the last few days myself. I had the KoKo Boost but couldn't find the right sound with my 6505+. Ive never used a boost in my life so i didn't really know what to expect. I dont have a noise gate or g-string deal so at band volumes it was too much noise to deal with so i sold it. Ive since changed my mind and was thinking of trying something again. Thanks for info :)

I gotta tell ya...the more I play through the Koko Boost the more I'm liking it...awesome pedal!

LP -> Koko Boost with mid boost on -> crunch channel on my LoneStar or XTC amps.

Nice...I can see how the mid boost would be really cool with the XTC....I can feel a little GAS bubble starting to form

KoKo lover here as well. Rayeman brought over his PT100 with the Koko boost a year ago and that sold me to get one last Christmas.
Doesnt matter the amp(Roccaforte Jenelle,Marshall SLP,Dr Z Maz JrNR, Dr Z Remedy),it just takes them all over the top or can give just a nudge.
Also can still clean up with a twist of the guitars volume knob.

Love the Koko as well, much prefer it over the RF.

I've go the Koko boost and the MK.4.23 clean boost. Love the koko boost, but the MK.4.23 is more transparent. The koko gets the nod because it's very close to the MK.4.23, but also has the mid boost option. If you want a great clean boost w/ versatility get the koko. Looking for the most transparent boost get the MK.4.23.

Another Koko fan here. It kills when using the mid-boost side with my Suhr PT100. One of the best around.

Yep, that's my take on the Koko Boost. If you have a decent amp it just kicks that amp up a couple of notches. The RF does a bit of the same thing but not as nicely or as much, IMHO, as the Koko.

How's the Koko compare to the Tim?

What's your favorite mid switch setting? I tend to move back and forth between left and middle mostly. The left seems a bit more modern sounding in the lower mids. The middle position is mean and ballsy, just sets it on fire. It does something cool to the bottom end as well. However, it seems to thin out the top end a bit. The left position seems a little more polite. The right position is cool for a more mellow lead, but I don't like it as much for rhythm.

It's nice to have the option though, as sometimes I want a different effect from the mid boost.

I'm recording a bunch of leads so the far right is working for my music. When I get back to the rhythms I'll probably use the far left or middle.

Yes, it is cool to have the multiple options the Koko provides...lots of different sounds.
