It is interesting because both platforms of the amps seem to go after the 80's vibe. lynch, van Halen....fill in the rest. I have a PT-100 that has been in my room covered since I got my VH4 a year ago. After reading this thread I was inspired to fire her up after more than a year I have to admit....to my ears it is WAY different than this new release. It feels darker, grainier more sensitivity to the attack. A plus is that WOMP switch which I quite honestly forgot about.

When I get he hankering for a new amp. I just go play through one. I end up dialing it in to sound just like my 2204. So, I think what's the use.

Now if I needed a two channel amp. For the price I love the Small Box. Most amps try to do the fender channel to hot rod 800 or plexi. I like the way the Small box goes from plexi to BE. Sometimes when builders try to do the fender to HR sound there is too much disparity in the sounds and it sticks out like a sore thumb. With the SB the transition from clean to dirty sounds more natural to me.

Anyway, both of these amps demoed sound great. I could get what I wanted and more out of either one.

And, Alex, always enjoy your demo's.

PS....Pete, your demos arent far. You can make a piece of crap LP copy through a gorilla sound great.

As a BE owner I hate saying this but I think the PT is clearer. The BE is darker and more sluggish.

I owned a Metro build that was made into a BE and just played the small block 50 and Stevens model this weekend in Nashville. Doing that confirmed my reasons for selling the BE. Not that the Friedman amps sound bad but to me the Friedman stuff just isn't open enough in tone to be my thing.

I think regardless of how well you match the EQ, the amps have different characters. The BE has a "gloss" or "polish" to it that the PT does not have.

That's where it's going to come down to personal preference.

Both killer amps, they are both staying in the Mancave.

Definitely curious to hear the Friedman with more mids/Prescence and Suhr same setting as previous video.

I haven't played the JJ. Not a big Alice in Chains fan to be honest. Grunge killed all my favorite bands and I never quite got over it. Can't you tell?

Both sound really good. Slight nod to the Suhr. Bit brighter. But I like the darker warmer tone of the BE as well. Guess it would depend on my mood at the time.
