Wow, this thread sure went off the rails fast. I don't know Pete or rockinchippy, but I always appreciate their videos and their willingness to share their knowledge with fellow gear geeks such as myself.

New and old amps can sound exactly the same. The specs have been refined over time. The new amps are made in a way that breeds consistancy from amp to amp. Also new amps have improved grounding and dc regulated heaters for the first 3 tubes. All this makes for a even quieter amp. I a/b amps to old ones all the time to make sure they are the same tone. Hope this clears things up.

For me the PT is a bit more articulate...but both sound great! No you can't go wrong..

Pete brought the "you buy gear to play music" concept back and gave us demos that had a musical context. He didn't just shred or noodle aimlessly and you always took away some nugget of knowledge. I think I am a better player from watching PT's videos.

just got a latest revision BE this wednesday and i played it live last night. ( i had Alex's first BE before he did i believe, and wasnt impressed at all) well this latest revision is really, really good. I have to give kudos to dave on this amp, very good.
Pete thanks for being on this forum, it's really cool that a guy with your background, contacts, and exiperence comes on here and shares with us so dont take anything that some hack spews seriously.

Thanks, this place is full of good guys, I like it and it's generally a good hang I think it's odd when people get so worked up and whatnot over gear, especially when it's all GOOD gear we are generally discussing, high quality stuff across the board. I guess when someone tries to say my 1st PT amp was crap or not worth half the price etc etc that just makes me go "really?" And I post some admittedly flippant immature belittling comment in response, ha. I suppose I should have just said... "...Really?" And that would have been enough. It's obvious enough when some people have an agenda to talk down a certain brand or whatever. Especially obvious when it makes no sense. It's like saying "I'll take the Mercedes, the BMW is crap, I wouldn't buy it at 1/2 the price", when everyone knows they are both great.

Bottom line is we are talking about 2 shades of great amps here, Dave makes great amps! And of course I love my amp.

FWIW,

I have found the info, videos, post, etc that both Aleks and Pete do to be hugely beneficial. They have added so much to not only the RT community but to guitarists everywhere that are searching for reliable reviews and/or info.

As far as Carly, not sure there is anything I could say that hasn't been said already……...by almost everyone.

Not sure I posted this yet...this is a clip of Channel 3...I had to throw a Phase 90 in front of the lead so that it didn't get lost in the mix.

I usually do not add leads but my friend always gives me shit for my lack of leading playing in my vids
