Suhr Reactive Load vs Torpedo Reload

I've been using Torpedo Reload since it came out and I think it's great in some areas and not that great in some other. Therefore I'm searching for another solution hoping to find what I'm looking for. The problem I have with the Torpedo Reload is that is takes away a lot of gain on some amps while in contains it to maybe 80% on others. My question is: How does the Suhr Reactive work on gain? Will it contain it or steal away some? I know it's not an attenuator, but that's not my main concern because I will mainly use it for silent recording.

I also have the Reload and I get what you are saying.. it is a slightly cleaner and less full tone out the other end which also gives me the perception that it is not as beefy and gainy. The advantage though, is that you can crank the amp vs not even getting anywhere close to that 80% gain if you had nothing in between the amp and the speaker. I don't know much about the Reactive load but it is advertised as not changing anything about your tone though I would imagine it might work in a similar manner. The question is whether or not you would really know seeing as it is silent and therefore the speaker impulse will have a greater impact on tone than anything else.

Also check out the Fryette products. Just saying.

Came here to say that. So, seconded.

Fryette PS-2, or one of the other load box products they make.

I have owned both a Two Notes Torpedo Live and a Suhr Reactive Load. I a/b'd them both with flat EQ settings and found the Suhr to be far superior.

I've never had an issue with gain being taken away with the Suhr. I've got some pretty heavy amps too. It's perfect for recording.

Scott Henderson says Suhr not Torpedo. End of story.

I have a to notes torpedo as well as a suhr

if find the suhr supererior

But for the greatest ease-of-use my rock crusher recording by Rivera as much better because is far quicker

I have a Suhr RL and was pretty curious about the Reload and that Rock Crusher Recording.

For me I notice when using the Suhr, if I crank up my amp and turn up the di level the clarity gets muddier which affects the gain. It sounds more muffled sounding to me and kills the amp's tightness. I never tried tweaking my amp's settings to compensate it, instead I dialed back the di level to off, reduced the input level on my interface as much as possible and turned my amp's volume down til I found a good balance with clarity/gain. I was actually curious if my RL was messed up cause to me it sounds like ass when cranking the di level and amp up.

@fuzzyguitars Do you use the Rock Crusher recording's built in speaker/eq thing? Or do you use it with IRs?

Never tried or owned any of the Two Notes stuff, but I have a Suhr RL and love it. It sounds amazing to me, I can't find any sound degradation. I also have a Fryette PS2 because it can handle more than 100w. It sounds good, but I honestly have not ran it though the ringers yet to check it out thoroughly.

had Rivera RC and still have 2 * Fryette PS2s. (too good to have only one)
they are in totally different level.

is PS2 perfect? no.
just connecting PS2 makes an amp slightly less dynamic, even in bypass mode.

i heard Suhr Reactive Load is better - will try it someday.

Thanks for all your answers. I've put up my Reload for sale and will go with the Suhr Reactive Load.

I'm using a Suhr reactive load and Two Notes Wall of Sound III in a DAW and couldn't be happier.
