Wish they wouldn't bother with the paper-thin veneer top.

Curious as to whether or not this is true.

This almost makes me want a seven but I've tried that route twice. Not for me. Maybe someday I'll get good on six

With Ibanez, the quilt tops are usually a veneer. The plastic binding is a bit of a give away. If it were the typically 4mm maple top, they would use the exposed-edge faux binding.

Really? On a $2k guitar? I'd be pretty disappointed.

Looks like I will be the owner of one of these beauty...just ordered one

If it's a Prestige or J-Custom, the top will be a real cap. Not veneer.

Premiums, however, will all be veneer tops.

Typically Ibanez guitars don't do much for me, but I'm finding myself strangely drawn to this one. That purple finish and markerless maple board look stunning together.

Dunno man. The S Prestige guitars use a thin veneer (obvious around the input jack). And these don't have the exposed-edge binding of the typical 4mm maple tops.

This thread confirms that a similar run was just a veneer. Guy took off the neck and shows a pic of an unpainted neck pocket. Not a real top:

I'd just prefer to have a solid color or trans finish over the mahogany rather than a veneer, but others may feel differently.

At least one of the new 2017 Premium models advertises a 7 mm top.

If it's a Prestige and it has a veneer, I'd be pissed as fuck!

Looks like I'll be sticking to the usual alder, basswood or ash bodies or the J-Customs.

Ibanez has been getting sloppy with some of this stuff. I kinda wanted one of the ash-bodied 752s, but other than the fact I can't gell with the color, many of them have three-piece bodies with obvious seems. Just looks bad to me. Either use a center seem, 2-piece body or paint it a solid color. And the veneers are lame IMHO.

Agreed on the veneers. Fucking lame as fuck.

I really like this guitar but the fucking veneer really puts me off buying it. I'd rather not have the veneer and just make it a full mahogany body.
