Just like the title says. I have the Slo 2 and the Uber, but looking for the VH1 sound. Plexi or Metro? Anything else?

I have the Plexi and it is pretty cool for that tone. I boost it a bit but I also boost everything. Have not really tried to get close to the VH1 tone with it yet but I can hear that character in there.

I am not much of a VH person, but I would think the Killer Kali could do that.

Killer Kali is a bit too tight and percussive and seems to be voiced more for modern metal, although you can tame it a bit for 80's style metal it still is a really modern take on a hot rodded Plexi on steroids' to say the least. I think it would be over the top for early Van Halen stuff.

I have the Kali also and would probably agree with this. To get the clank out of the initial attack on the Kali I have to wind up the gain a good bit. That module is super versatile though so you might be able to get in the VH1 ballpark with some tweaking.

It is easy to dial in bad tones on that one too. At least for me! A lot of great tones as well but you have to find them.

hoping my incoming be-dlx has some of that action, but currently the eggie IE4/ch 3 hit with Wayne’s Atomic Overdrive is pretty legit!

If you turn off the bright switches it is not as tight and clanky. It is just more of a high gain Plexi when you keep the EQ switch up.

Probably metroplex... plexi is underwhelming and doesn't cut enough in my setup. Friedman already did the perfect JMP in the randall Lynch brahma module so I had high hopes for the plexi but it just doesn't do that one thing imo. I guess because a lot of it comes from power amp but synergy needs to figure out a way to get some of that pushed power amp sound..

They supposedly have with two of the recent modules: Z Wreck and Tone King Imperial. They call it a “0 watt power amp” with a phase inverter and small transformer in the preamp module. I think some are just waiting for some updated modules to get that. Plexi being high up in the list.

The VH sound is more about the power section. The Plexi or Metro module will get close enough when slamming the phase inverter of a Marshall type power amp.

I had the metroplex , it doesn t clean up very well with guitar vol so ...

That might be what it needs yes... but also someone else voicing it because the new Friedman ear for tone, favours his softer mids and there is a lack of snap and edge to the tone for my tastes. Also while at it, a variac switch. Simulate that squish.

I always thought this demo was good.. obviously the real amp has more beef but the metroplex is an interesting take on "that" tone with the right poweramp. Again though, that fullness and brashness comes from that power amp givin'er.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm probably leaning towards the Metro. The only downside as gibsonash pointed out is that it doesn't roll off the volume well.

Though, I have noticed that with the two modules that I have as well. They seem to be on or off, no real great in between sounds.

The SYN-1 volume knob replicates that squish quite nicely for me. At least on the SYN-1 that I have raising that knob does not really add actual volume. Just some compression that feels and sounds like a power amp getting wound up. Just switched to a SYN-2 and notice that the volume on that unit has a lot more headroom than the SYN-1. Can still get the squish, but have to adjust volume in other places to keep it in line.

I think you ll be have better luck with BE DLX module in low gain mod

I use the DLX module, 2nd channel that’s slightly broken up then hit it with a a J Rocket Animal. Cleans up astonishingly well. Works for me!
