That was comical!  This Gates guy doesn't know his intonation sucks because he has no ear! I don't know what his talent is, but it sure isn't music.

Slash's playing is equally offensive...

With all due respect. That is pretty absurd.

Maybe he doesn't know how to intonate his guitar, maybe he does?

Usually techs handle that stuff and I wouldn't be surprised if slash had ever even tuned a guitar while on the road with GNR.

Idk if this holds true but google shows Slash's net worth at 32m and Gates at 16m

Slash has quite a few years on Gates as well but 16m in nothing to laugh about.

To each their own but Gates is a good player and can defintely bring it.

Something tells me you have never sat down and listened to much of his playing.
I was actually referring to his intonation (Slash included) - not the instrument itself. If you can't hear what I'm referring to, then it's a mute issue.

Net worth = talent?

You said his talent is not music.

His net worth is highly relevant because his music is sold and that is what brings him his net worth. Duh

You don't have to like his music but it is a talent that he has that millions of people agree with.

That is like saying Mel Brooks's talent is not directing/producing/screenwriting films.

You also said he doesn't know his intonation sucks because he has no ear.

How do you know that he doesn't know? How do you know after the set he didn't go to his tech and cock slap him?

How do you know he just didn't give a shit because he makes serious money?

Sounds like your one of those guys who worries more about tone chasing than playing your guitar. That is all good and dandy, after all this is a gear forum but don't come in and troll amazing ear guy.

I would actually like to hear some of your work. Any links? I'd be willing to bet your ear is more talented than your hands.

Sorry to necropost, but Ola Englund just reposted this video... shows a different side of him for sure!

I hate them both.

Artist comparisons are completely pointless anyway.

You asked for it  .......

So this is the next century's version of 'cock rocker'.
In the 80's is was about the guitar as cock and swing'in it all over the place.
Now, it's about the guitar as a set of really heavy balls, so heavy you have to really bend your knee's to hold them up and rock them up and down.

Still got cock rockers into the 21st century. :)

Both are sloppy players but that is Slash's style and he has the legacy and the soul and the groove so for me, he wins easily.

Is that auto tune on the cleaner vocals?? Oh god.. cookie cutter formula for metal. There is nothing that the music industry will leave alone..

I loathe Avenged Sevenfold however I can admit that Synyster Gates has talent as a player forsure. Not a fan of how he does all his solos almost 100% on the bridge pickup, some neck pickup would add flavor (as we all know). He's a sick player and one of few of the players in today's popular metal that actually has his own style. Lots of subtle things that he does to make his own sound. As for Slash... well what can be said that hasn't been said, he's a legend and he's a legend for a reason. To have made SO much money and inspired SO many players around the world with basically only three albums worth of material is pretty damn incredible. To earn LEGEND and GOD status with only three albums basically means that his work on those albums is some of the best guitar playing ever recorded. Synyster gates may be influencing many young players in a new generation but he will never be a legend or a god, he wont reach even 1/4 Slash status in my opinion. Both great players but Slash gets the win here on status alone.

Ha!

Glad everyone got a kick out of the crab core vid

I like both Gates and Slash. They are so different that it really isn't a comparison.

I dig the chug riff stuff but don't play it much. Slash plays the blues based licks I have been playing all my life.

I think the over saturation of GNR got me tired of hearing about Slash. But he is a great player and has written some classic long lasting music.

His songs he did with Fergie singing were smokin. He should so an album with her. You can tell in the vids he was having a food time.

This is some great amo for the fight in his favor.

But I see everyone was more interested in reposting the Attack attack clip then paying any attention to this

Yep, that's a shame. Not too many modern metal players who have gypsy jazz in their repertoire.
