Overall I actually believe what you say and I totally agree with you but what bothers me is that I don't think you yourself know what's going on. You know what you like; but you cannot explain it. Nor can you communicate it to other people what you're hearing and why you don't like.
I go get the Paint and draw pictures to explain audio for people now.

If you have an audio signal and replicate it perfectly; then there is no change.
If you have an audio signal and try to replicate it but there is a change; we would call that a distortion.
If you look at a distortion there can only be two basic things done to a signal to distort it. Addition or subtraction.
Most components in an audio system operate through a process of subtraction. Transformers, resistors, wiring, capacitors, etc.
You can hear it or see it in the grand scheme of things like a fuzz pedal or even one component at a time if you want to.
Most people don't enjoy audio that works solely through the process of subtraction. Most people love audio that works through the process of addition. Tubes forever.
