Talk Box advise ?

I have two talk boxes , banshee 2 and dunlop one , the banshee is really easy to set up and sounds pretty good , but not as authentic as the dunlop , seems the dunlop gets more air into the pipe and sounds a little more gritty .
Thing is how do most people use them , the dunhlop is a unit that you need to set your amp to 8 ohms and my cab is 16 ohms even if i connect the head to another 16 ohm cab and changed the head to 8 ohm when the talk box is engaged it would be a mismatch cos of the 8 ohm talk box . So how do people like sambora set their boxes up ? do you need another head to drive it or can you use it inline with the one head and cab or cabs . ? cheers ,,,mark
 
The dunlop sounds better but the setup can cause alot of hassles. The Banshee can be made to sound really good though and is so much easier to deal with. Ive used both and much prefer the Rocktron.

I would say Record with the Dunlop, play live with the Banshee

Hit up Rich(Skyhighrocks) He's been playing in a Bon Jovi tribute for ages and can run you through his banshee setup

Hey Mark!

Guys like Richie Sambora/Peter Frampton/Mick Mars/Joe Walsh etc, all use a separate head to power the talk box. So if you wanted to have your rig setup like yours, you would need two amps to do it... One that is for your main tone, that is hooked up to a cab. And then another head hooked up to the talk box. You would then need a good transformer isolated A/B box to send your guitar's signal to each head, to avoid ground loops or any noise issues.

BTW i agree 110% with Kage.. The Banshee is the way to go for live use. If you were out on a major tour with a team of roadies carrying your gear and teching for you, then I'd give the nod to the Dunlop. But the Banshee is just so much easier to setup/dial in and integrate with your main rig, and no need to carry two heads either.
 
The banshee is the way to go on stage. It's easy to set up, sounds authentic enough that the audience has no idea what you're using and it doesn't require a separate head to run. I run mine with an ABY box so I have the option on just using the banshee and having my amp out of the signal or I can use both at the same time for songs like "It's My Life".

I keep all 3 knobs set right around 3 o'clock. That's after years of trying to find a good balance for the majority of sound guys out there. You can actually here a little of it in my sig video.

I use the Heil, run a separate head set at 8 ohms. It has a built in crossover, I took it apart and ohmed it out once, can't remember exactly but it's over 8 ohms and less than 16 so the 8 ohm trans tap on the head is a safe mismatch.
I A/B using my Rocktron switcher.
 
I would run my head first to an attenuator so the amp would always see that load and connect the talk box to the speaker out on the attenuator and my cab to the talk box. One amp, problem solved.
 
I always use a separate amp for my talkbox. With our stage volume, I need to run at least 25 watts into the driver in order to be heard. I make mine using the plans on the Talkbox FAQ site.

Thanks very much guys , gives me some good options using both units . The banshee is very easy to use and by using a volume pedal in the front end of my amp I can blend the amp with the talk box , I'm not sure the Dunlop is gonna be worth the extra hassle unless it was for some big venues .
 
I've recorded with the banshee n use it live works perfect. The heil thing looked just like a pain in the ass.
