As some of you might know, I am mainly a bedroom played- recording heavy stuff - using my suhr reactive load + two notes products. I ve never tried this head nor the 8100 model, but before I got my first tube amp I used to have some good "metakl" ss amps like the ampeg vh 140c. I mostly buy and sell stuff as this is the only way I get to experiment and I really find pleasure in it. Having said that, I haven't played a ss amp for many years! So, which of you guyz has played / owned / recorded some heavy stuff using this model ? Thx

If you are into Death Metal, the VH140C and 8100 pretty much are the standard for that tone. 8100's are brutal sounding amps, what they do they do it well. I would suggest using an EQ with one.

Thx for the prompt reply! I hear that the 8100s are more prone to issues compared to the vs100. Tone wise these should be similar right?

ive been looking for a 8200 for a while to finish my SS amp collection. the vh140c is still the king of metal amps for me out of all the amps i have, i plugged into it the other day for the first time in a while through a new 1960a and boosted it with an SD1 and its just the perfect metal tone. cuts so amazingly with a band as well.

Yeah the vh140c sure is a hell of am amp for death!

I had a VS100H. When it worked, ch 3 was great when playing alone. With a band I had to tweak the EQ very unorthodoxly to be heard.

My clean channel never worked right. I thought it could be an isolated issue until I wad Ola demo one and it did the same thing. Crappy, farty, no headroom.

I had to replace some parts and the PBC was rittled with previous fixes and burned up traces. Not reliable in my experiance.

Skip. Those solid state Marshall’s are fine budget amps but both of the amps you have listed in your signature smoke those solid state Marshalls and those Marshall’s aren’t really doing anything unique or interesting to warrant buying one for recording purposes.

The Ampeg vh140c was a great sounding but utterly unreliable amplifier, too bad. "Are you sure it's solid state?", they would ask. So close, but yet, so far.

If you wanna go solid state, I say save up a bit more and just get one of the older Randall’s like an RG100ES or Century. I’ve played ‘em all and think those are the best solid state amps for high gain. I’d take it even over many high end tube amps

i got laughed at a few times by guys with some big $$$ rigs rolling in with my "bass amp". the laughing quickly turned to confusion as i would start playing with them asking what kind of tubes are in that thing. no tubes man, youre big $$$ just got smoked by a SS "bass amp" :2thumbsup: too bad yours had problems, ive had mine for almost 20 with no issues

i have both of them and they sound great but in terms of sheer brutalness they dont hang with the ampeg if death metal is the goal. for a more 800ish tone id go with the randalls

This. They are leagues better than Valvestates. Probably not easy to come by in Europe, however.

8100...worthless piece of sh*t. Even Line6 Spider sound godly beside it. Worst amp Marshall ever made.

i would take the 8100 over all the other marshalls based on this video :dunno:

Well I found one locally for cheap and I couldn't resist!

Nice score. It sounds killer. If you have the stereo cab, remember you’ll get the most power out of the amp by using the 4 Ohm side.

How about some Rick Rozz/Massacre?

;)

Sounds amazing, you made the right decision when you decided to buy this amp!
