I gauge my playing by the highest string, and it's one string too far away
lolzgreg, may I use this quote in my sig?

Thanks for all the info, Cats... Honestly, it's been mentioned before and you're all BANG on, the only thing I cannot stand about the NT-7 is my getting pigeonholed into using the active pups. I saw the set up, and saw the top mounts, wasn't too jazzed about this - not a 'committed fan' to actives or EMGs.

So I'll keep my eyes out for an Ibby... For now. I wish the ESPs came with a better pup option, but so it goes. Thanks for the scale length bits too.

Peace,
Mo

I had an Ibanez 1527 and for the price it was decent enough with a good pickup change. However, I'm not a lover of basswood body guitars.
I had a BFR Ernie Ball 7 and while it was nice, the quality of build was not on par for what I paid for it.

I ended up with a sleeper being the new APEX 100 from Ibanez. Ash body, Blaze humbucker and single coil and edge bridge. Superb quality guitar and sounds absolutely amazing combined with a classic look. This coming from someone who has 3 J Customs....and it's not easy to play much else once you've played them. This guitar rocks both in the studio and live!

Disagree about Agile and disagree about the scale length. Agile's build quality can be really hit or miss, and their guitars, while looking pretty, don't seem to be any better than a dirt cheap 7620.
Couldn't be more wrong friend. My Agile is spectacular.

And you completely missed my point - $$$. Petrucci 7 is no better than a $700 Agile 7.

Scale length is key with 7s and 8s, especially if you want to down tune further. The shorter the scale the shorter the spacing is between frets. And for any given gauge (thickness) of string the tension required to produce a given note is less than the same string on a longer scale. So for a given string gauge, a guitar with a longer scale will have more string tension along the neck. Giving you much more control, definition and less flub. Therefore a 27" scale is much more preferable for 7s and 8s.

I gather that's why he said "hit or miss". I've owned a couple Agiles, and a friend owns/owned quite a few more. Some were hits, some were misses. A lot of cosmetic though. With the return policy being decent, I suppose it's worth the shot though.

And I disagree; a EBMM JP is a lot better than any Agile, Ibanez, or Schecter. Just a different class of instrument. I don't know that the BFR's are worth what they're asking, but they're definitely a notch above the standard stuff.

:inlove: That's on my list of MUST AQUIRE. Love my K-7 but this new APEX100 is simply stunning.

To the OP, I would vote for either the ESP or Ibanez. I have yet to try an Agile so I can't comment on them, every Schecter I've tried I haven't been impressed with (neck felt too bulky for my liking), EBMM JP's play extremely nice and sound amazing but are very $$$$. I've been an Ibanez 7 player for many, many years. Love 'em. Had an ESP LTD SC607B for a while and it was a great guitar too (ended up parting with it due to the middle pickup placement and bridge style). I've tried the NT7 as well and it's a great 7. I haven't tried any of the new Jackson SLA7's but have heard some good about them.

The Apex2 looks pretty golden - fixed bridge, I like that. Passives that can be swapped out if need be, mahognay body, decent neck, and solid. I'll test drive one in the near future... But keep the options coming

Take a good look at the Ibanez RGD series too. Made for "drop A" tuning...KoRn style. I have the 6-string, and am really mulling over the 7-string. Cool guitar, but could use some decent pickups.

I have an Ibanez RG7620 that i want to sell. I bought it used with a few dings but it plays pretty good. Pickups are a little muddy compared to my other ibby's.

What are you asking for it?

I personally like the Schecters. They have a fatter neck you might like if you normally like LP's. The 26.5" scale length gives it extra depth in the low notes.

Ibanez has too much of the "yard stick" shaped neck for me. I wish they had more round necks because they make some good guitars, but the best guitar in the world is useless if I cant play it :)

I do have a hardshell case for it, it isn't an Ibanez one (since the guitar was used) just a big rectangle/fits everything case.

Asking $375 shipped for it.

BTW, the yellow indicates chips in the paint, and the sticker comes off very easily.
