Does anybody know how to update TC Electronics G-Force firmware from version 1.05?

Anybody have the PCM card to do it? Looks like Behringer TC no longer supports updating the unit. Fair enough, unit is pretty old.

They used to send you the card and you’d send it back. Curious if anybody has any ideas.

Pure update cards are very hard to come by. I almost never see them. Those artist cards, called the G Card, should have the latest firmware update on them from what I recall, though. I don't think you can get the .wiz file from TC anymore since Behringer bought them out and gutted them. Even if you could, I think you need to use one of their devices like an M5000 to even write the .wiz file to the PCMCIA card, as normal PCMCIA readers and writers won't work due to TC's proprietary formatting.

That is great info, thank you! It appears that looking out for an artist card is my best bet. There’s one on EBay for $250 :ROFLMAO:.

I have one if you're interested. Looking at the manual, it looks like it could have anything from 1.13 to 2.04 on it. But my personal unit is 2.04, and I just did the PCMCIA flashing procedure. Still reporting 2.04 when powering on.

The 90s processors are getting to be a handful, that´s for sure. I have to keep an old laptop running Vista around to communicate with my Eventide GTR4000 😄
:giggle:That seems so annoying but it’s probably worth it for the Eventide. I keep switching in between my Axe III and my G-Force or G-Force with Keely Halo and of course I “should” prefer the Axe but the G-Force has something special going on sound-wise plus the 1U form factor and interface is perfect for my smaller rig…. A 1U Fractal would be an instant but fro me buy that will likely never happen…

Fucking $250 for that card? Guess I’ll be kissing those Vai presets goodbye forever before I even heard them!

I need to replace the battery in mine as it won’t store presets anymore after turning it off. I had a preset in there I needed to hear to recreate in my AxeFX because I made it 20 years ago and can’t even remember how I did it, there was a ton of chorus and pitched delays on it that sounded like something you’d hear on a A Perfect Circle album but made for very scooped guitar tones, had a horror movie kinda thing going on. I miss it.

Stupid question: do you need the battery replaced in order to be able to try out the Vai factory presets that come with a card? Because the card is a solvable problem without dropping $250.😉

That is how I feel. I think some of these older rack units just have good sounds. I always think the Fractal stuff should be the best, but there is always something 'neutral' about them that can make them boring sounding. But damn, if the convenience of modern editors and things like block libraries on the computer are so much easier than dealing with some of the issues of these older units.

And today my axe sounds better. Gear drives me crazy sometimes….

These are the days when I think I should just sell all the old stuff and stick with the Fractal. The Block Library capability alone is probably enough to swear off any special mojo.

Yeah, if there was a 1-rack space Fractal unit with analog dry through the size of my old Intellifex, it would be game over. I have considered grabbing a VP4 many times for that reason.

Agree. I think the G-Force is very easy to program. I’m sure Fractal could cook up a cool faceplate interface for a 1U effects-only Axe FX.
