Anyone here own tc electronice g system was thinking about getting one to use 4cm with my randall rm 100 they are pricey and I do have a digitech rp 1000 I like it but no midi and been wanting to get another rm 100 to run stereo rig the g system seems like a good option

G system is an extremely picky piece of gear. Some amps it'll work with some it wont. Personally I had a nightmare experience with the Red Limited version and i recommend you go a different route. I suggest just getting an RJM rack gizmo and midi controller.

Are you looking for something to switch the channels?

A simple combo at a cheaper cost, would be to GMajor and Berhinger foot controller. Both of them have channel switches, so between the two you can switch the channels on anything. (four switches total).

Had a G-Sys for the past year and a half (just sold it a month ago). Was a VERY well-built peice of gear. Just HEAVY duty. Really did love it. But I'm not an FX guy, so it was just WAY overkill. As far as a switching system with great FX, it's hard to beat. But as as been said, it can be picky with certain gear and how it's set up. Got to spend some time tweaking. Some amps didn't work well with the 4-cable connection method (the Bogner XTC in particular). Which was frustrating, because having to roll-back to a regular two-cable in-the-loop setup negated all of those on-board loops of the G-Sys, as well as FX like Comp that should be in front of the amp. But overall, for live work, if you can make the G-Sys work for your application I don't see how you could do better than it for a switching/FX unit.

Love mine. I have the red limited I use with my main gigging pedalboard and my original silver one I use at home and take to practices. I do also have a TC G-Force and a GCX loop switcher and Ground Control Pro unit. I use my G-System with two EVH 5150 III's in a stereo setup and love it. I have a 50 watt EVH that I use with the silver G-System and the G-Force setup depending on what I'm doing. As has been stated the G-System is very picky about the amp's it plays with. Luckily for me it works perfectly with the 5150 line of amps. The original Peavey, the 5150 II, the combo and the EVH amps both the 100 watt and the 50 watt. No noise issues and no tone suck problems. It's a great unit when paired with the right amp. If you get one, get one of the newer units with the improved input section and wherever you get it make sure they have a good return policy in case you are not happy with it.

Use the search key!!!! It's your friend. There is a ton of info on this thing. Just so you know. I've owned 3 of them and cound never get them to work but I have a friend that that loves his and it sounds incredible!! Good luck on your search

Yes, use the search since I don't feel like typing. In short....I think it's a piece of garbage. Stay away from this thing if you like the way your amp sounds.

I've had one for a year. Never really got to use it with my D-Moll since that got sold pretty fast, but I'm TRYING to use it with my Diezel Herbert now and admittedly I am having a bitch of a time even connecting it properly. The manual that comes with it is useless as all the folks online will tell you, there's a "White Pages" that go into detail on how to connect and edit the thing, I'm giving it another month and if it doesn't work out by then Im junking it. However, I know Michael Romeo from Symphony X has great success with his, Steve Vai and Neal Schon both used them for a long time, and two of my friends have it and swear by it, one on a Diezel Einstein, the other using a Mesa Road King. I think it has to do with having someone to show you how to use it or how adept you are at complicated effects processors and having patience to program and edit. In short, if you have time and patience, get it. Its the best channel switcher/MIDI/Effects processor out there. But it's got a big learning curve and is NOT user friendly!!!

I had one when I had the Eggy mod50 and RM100 dual ch stuff. There is a loop gadget that Bruce Egnater made to help the signal balance and work with certain effects. I didn't have it and think that was part of my issue. The other was how much was involved to tweak effects, unless you had it hooked up USB/editor to a laptop.

It is easier, for me to use a RJM switcher and midi pedal. Grab a GCP (Ground Control Pro) and a RG-16 then any effect you want. The RM100 switches with midi so you won't need the special cable from RG-16 to amp but if you get another amp that is not midi Ron (RJM) has or can make a cable for that amp.

I liked mine when I had it. It is a great all-in-one type of thing. However, I decided to go with a midi controller, effects unit, and midi capable amp. This has been the best set up for me.

Again, as an all-in-one unit, it is great, when set up correctly. It has versatility and ability to do most things. When you need more complex midi settings you might outgrow it. Meaning if you need more inputs, outputs, loops, or whatever. It is kinda heavy as well, however I like the stability of it, the slant of the controller itself, and the buttons.

Try one out and see if it will do what you need. That's the only way to really know...just give yourself some time with it and get the kinks worked out.

Have fun

I have a silver, red, and a black one.Ive used all 3 with my Shiva, Herbert,6100,Friedman, MkIII, MK IV,Badcat, and even my fully loaded rockman stack sounds absolutely fantastic with any of the g's.I skip the front end of the G, as I never use compression or filter wah(basically what you get with the front end).In those setups I come into the unit via loop 1 return.I recently ran my black one straight into a Bandmaster and and two 64' princeton reverbs with all the bogner pedals and a pitchfactor in its loops..Almost dead quiet.Love it.The delays and chorus's are to die for in them.I also turn rev/trem/ switch channels with it too...I think the TC forum people are hoping for a new one w/the polytune and ditto looper added and switchable effects blocks are all on thier wish lists..Also read lairds white paper on it..It seems though that its either a love or hate with it..I dont even use the whole insert loop,ebtech/balanced cable stuff with mine and ive never had bad noise or hum..I DO use either george L or Premium Lava cable throughout though...Hope this helps ya!

There is also a TC overdrive Distortion pedal that has a special Y midi cable for the G System so when you use the editor you can control the TC pedal at the same time and add it into a patch.

I love mine. Some people hate'em some people love em. It works fantastic for me. Guess I'm lucky it gets along well with my amps. (EVH 5150 III's) No hum noise or tone suck. I like having just my pedalboard and amps. Ya sure you can do the Loop and switcher thing and MIDI and pedal and rack effects. I did it before the my G-System with a GCP, G-Force and Voodoo Labs Loop switcher. Got tired of bringing a pedalboard and rack case. G -System is a thing of beauty for my setup. One button and I'm turning effects on and off, channel switching, controlling Fx parameters with expression pedal. G's Fx are quality. I have an Axe-Fx II and it is not taking the place of my G-System for fx in live use. To each his own I guess.

They really are great units..think about it a minute- nobody else is really building and selling something like this..I'd love to see eventides version of this or a t Rex Bigfoot midi board with its best effects included.or strymon doing something like that..... if you think about it,tc had a little bit of the g system going on in the 2290 with its loop control/ etc..and my 2290 will never leave my rig...love it....one thing that really really helped me get the lowest noise floor, best sound quality, and running at its best for me was to zero out/ unity gain all its default settings for loop headroom, input/ output levels etc....that alone makes a humongous difference in the g....I love mine.and if I need to go even more deeper and hog wild with loops and interfaces , I use rjm, liquid foot and Bradshaw midi boards....its never been a better time as a guitarist to have quality options to chooses from!

Wait for the G System II. It's going to have a secondary processor with modulation effects positioning before the preamp input.

Perhaps a new G @ namm? For what it is though, theres nothing quite like it elsewhere really(flaws included).BUT, if someone like Strymon or Eventide did thier version of "this" system....This would all of a sudden turn into a very competitive scene...and hopefully we would the benefactor of that!

I was lucky enough to purchase a G System for $600. I know huh! Anyways, I have referred to all of the normal docs and white papers but still seem to have an issue with the 4CM. I set the INSERT loop to always on but still have no gain from my EVH III. Just clean. Anyone rectify this issue? And just my 2 cents, the effects are outstanding!! I was playing A Change of Season by Dream Theater and it sounds amazing...up to the distorted parts. I also programmed some harmonies that are to die for. But, no gain. Help me Mr. Wizard, I don't want to be a gear junkie anymore!!

Doesn't make any sense... How can you have a clean signal coming from the loop, but no gain signal?

I found this, but it pertains to the switching.
