Considering a few different options for fx on the ecstasy...

1) pedals. Boss DD20 and little aligator volume pedal to bump it for leads. Tried this out, worked pretty well actually. I'd run chorus, flange and phaser pedals in the front of the amp.

2) G-major. I have one with the knobs sheared off (don't ask) and may buy another one. Seemed pretty clean in my other amps. Phaser sucks, I'd still use a Phase 90 up front.

3) G-force. I like the idea of having a harmonizer, and I think the sound is better (or so they say) than the major.

4) Axe FX. On paper it should kick the TC's ass... anyone have any firsthand knowledge?

Any ideas, guys? Fire away. I can live with #1, but if I get 3 or 4 then I probably won't do any more fx for the loop ever again, or at least for a year or two. The GM sounded good with my other rigs, but the force just seems to be better - again, on paper.

The Axe would be my choice.

Hey Ed,

Do you run the 4 cable method with your axefx?

Yup, do a search for a thread called 2 guitars 4 heads or somehting like that. I used it like that for those clips.

Cool! Do you know if its possible to use the FX on the AxeFX like a stomp box with a midi controller? For Example, the Ground Control Pro has the instant function option where you can use the top 8 buttons as instant access. The way I have it setup right now is its only effects after the preamp, but its setup for just presets.

Isn't the Axe a LOT more expensive? Unless you were wanting one anyway for recording and/or using for amps as well, I'd think it would be a rather expensive FX unit?

Yeah for the price of one you can buy a shitload of stomp boxes, but if you use it for direct recording as well, it is well worth it IMO.

Axe has some amazing fx and creative fx, drawback is its expensive and you would need an additional midi controller to trigger different patches, and also, you will have to do lots of programming to get it as just an efx, since its set up for amp sounds and efx out of the box.

Would you consider the G System like Vai plays Pete?

I thought about that, but I think (and I could be wrong here) that the G System is between the G Major and G Force quality-wise.

I liked the G System better than the G Force, but like the Eventide Eclipse better than both put together. Have not tried the Ax Fx unit yet but since I am happy with my Cornford and do not really want amp sims I may not try it. Also the Eventide is not nearly as difficult to program as some will lead you to believe, it is however a bit more pricey than the TC stuff you mentioned.
