TC G-System

Some people put other pedals in their rack in a drawer along with the G-System brain. (the G-System's brain can be removed and racked so all you have is a cat5 cable running from the rack back to the floorcontroller.)

This just keeps getting better! I've found a website with some XLR ethernet cables... I don't see where the cable plugs into the back of the G? I can see the female socket on the "brain" - but only see a USB on the back of the G itself?

XLR ethernet cables:

Go back through this thread. On page one, there are many photos (including one of mine) that show the RJ-45 jack on the front of the brain. You can't see this unless the brain is uninstalled from underneath the G-System foot controller and is then placed in a rack.

My post also has a link to the most in-depth review of the G-System that you will find, complete with very detailed examples of how to incorporate it into your rig.

Best,
Scott

Yes, I see the socket on the "brain" - but not the controller? I see a USB socket, 1/4" inputs, MIDI - but no RJ-45 on the controller?

Wait! Okay... It's hidden behind the "brain" server unit. I was going to purchase a 20' cable but they be all out. :aww:

What about effects quality? Does the flanger and phaser sound good? I don't want to find myself plugging my analog effects into the loops, just so I can get a good Phase 90 tone... Not after dishing out 1,399 dinars!

The phase and flange are cool just take some tweaking. Pete Thorn has a great Phase 90 patch in the presets vault on the TG website. I have adescent flanger patch I use for the Unchained effect when I want to get my EVH on. You can still put your favorite pedals into one of the 5 external loops of the G-System. I have my MXR 74' script reissue in one of the loops.

I love the 74' Script reissue! That's one pedal that has a permanent place on my pb.

I asked my UPS guy why it would take 11 f-ing days to get my G System? He said that from anywhere in the USA, the longest he's ever heard of is 7 days delivery. I can just see the seasonal help playing a game of "Who can throw it the farthest"! :gethim:

Got my G-System today - and I'll be sending it back tomorrow. I can hear what sounded like delay-time artifacts when the Nova Drive is connected via MIDI?

Update: I found out that TC sent out a bunch of "bad" MIDI "Y" cables... The cable requires a mod, and that gets rid of the "beeping".

Sorry it didn't work out for ya. It's not a good fit for every rig out there. I heard about the Y-MIDI cable issue. I made my own so I never experienced the issue. Maybe something like the Nova System would be a better fit or a GCX loop switcher, FX rack and a MIDI controller. I reaaly love my G though. Perefect for my setup. Best piece of gear I ever bought. Let us know what you end up doing.

I had everything going great, and then today the Nova Drive started to lock-up on me? TC sent me a new MIDI "Y" cable, but the MIDI "heartbeat" is still audible. Maybe it's the ND doing it? I have to say that I'm not feeling real good about brand new gear with so many "little" issues... I reset the system, and then lost sound on some presets? I went in to make sure the "insert" parameters were set-up properly to run as a 2 x cable stereo rig... Still no sound out of several presets?

Another issue: The compressor, filter, phase, uni-vibe, and flanger should be routed BEFORE the loop send - not after. This was a huge mistake IMO. After spending some time going back and forth between the G System and my analog pedalboard, I have to say that I prefer my analog gear over the G System. The G System seems to take away something from my tone? I will miss the extra-cool delays...but my Intellifex should handle those just fine. My 19 year old Rocktron Intellifex (which still operates flawlessly) has the option of routing the preamp/input signal around the ADA converter/mixer for TRUE analog tone!

Good luck to all of you G System users... It's a nice piece of gear for sure!

Maybe I'll give it one more chance?

I bought a G-System today at Guitar Center....they were blowin em out at $1099.00. Seemed like a good deal, and I really need to clean my effects up and this seemed like a great way to tie everything I need together.

great deal. hopefully that wasn't just a deal to move the older units without the upgraded input buffer/circuit. But either way, be sure yours has the latest firmware installed (version # comes up when you turn it on) and download the new software if yours is old... do it before you invest time figuring out the device :-).

Thanks for the tip.....really appriciate it. I get the feeling its gonna be a bit involved to get this thing up and going the way I need it to, but sounds like it will be worth it in the end.
I read some thread on the net last night where some dude was saying he had a lot of problem with hum/ground noise being caused by running the 4 cable method, due to the loop? He was sayin he had to buy a device that had isolaters in them to separate the signals/grounds somehow? Anyone familiar with this problem? Steve

USE BALANCED CABLES like TC Electronic mention twenty times in their docs and notes. If you use long standard instrument cables, expect noise. If you have the entire G-System on the floor, definitely spend for one pair of balanced cables. If you put the brain in a rack (recommended), you can get away without balanced cables because your cable runs are so short.

Balanced cables......ok, seems simple enough. Most of you guys are running the effects unit in your rack then?

I have mine completely set up on the floor and I use 20' Mogami balanced cables. No issues with hum. Part of the appeal of the G-system for me was ditching my rack and just having a pedalboard to carry around. Spend some tim eon the G-system forum to help get it acclamated into your rig.
