ash varies greatly in weight. weigh before you buy.

There's no such thing as Fender tone woods.

The best body tone wood is black Korina.

Funny you say this. I have a custom Tele build that has a black korina body with a swamp ash top. Absolutely killer guitar, but it does NOT do the traditional Tele thing.

I built this Warmoth Tele a few months back, Swamp Ash with a boatneck and T.V Jones Powertrons. It's an ace rock guitar. :)

Now it's just a matter of finding one with SWAMP ash... As opposed to JUST ash.

Already picked up a cool handcrafted metal pickguard (because I can); and will pick out the proper fitting ashtray replacement when I know for certain which custom shop I'm going with.

I figured a little 'personalizing' wouldn't take away from the 'true' authenticity, ahem

You'll be selling your LP's soon
:hys:

I don't think so...

But hey, never say never, right?

Peace,
Mojo

It's going to be a shame. Brand new Yamano LP sitting in a closet, unplayed. All those LP's sitting around collecting dust and unloved. Mo keeps reaching for the tele, can't bring himself to admit that he just doesn't enjoy playing the LP's anymore now that he has discovered the tele.

Ooooooooooooooooooooh... :boxer:

Just an FYI, if anyone else is on this same search as me, the distinction between swamp ash versus normal ash is not species specific. If you get a lighter Tele made out of ash, in the high 6 pounds, low 7 pounds; it's a better body wood than one that's 8 pounds or more.

The lighter the ash, the better - according to some hardcore Tele fanatics (which they definitely seem to be once you scratch the surface....).

Thanks for the feedback gents

Ya ya, I'm seeing the ash as more of an authentic wood to go with, but a lot of cats out there swear by the well-roundedness of alder. Then again, a lot of cats on the tele forums are saying 'don't mean shit the kinda wood yer using boyee, don't mean shit...ash, alder, pine...all sounds da same young buck!!'. So who really knows :dunno: I'm also seeing more peeps saying neck/fingerboard wood is truly the dictator of tone in the tele, but overall, slap a big metal ashtray bridge on any hunk of tree and you'll get a similar sound. So it goes...

As for the holes of the bridge - yep - I'm on this like a fat kid on a Smartie. I've got it all sorted out.

Will keep y'all posted men!! (and Laura) Thanks for the chime ins.

I'm going to agree with them "cats on the tele forum". There's a difference between ash and alder but not more then you'd have between 2 ash or 2 alder bodied guitars. I know ash with maple neck is regarded as THE combination, i have heard to many that were way to bright sounding and I have heard (and own) alder body with rosewood fingerboard on maple neck that had all the spank you'd want.

Furthermore, tell me this doesn't have plenty of spank to it:
