Teles - what should I know?

Bob Are you coming to the pedal soiree next month in lovely Van Nuys? I can bring my Tele... (american Standard 96) I'll be in the Surreal booth with Jerry...

I missed you at the amp show last year, I ended up walking by a dude with a jack and coke with my bud tallboy and just nodded at him! :lol: :LOL:

What time of the morning was that?! :poke:
 
my friend is selling his g&l tele and if he still has it in a few weeks i might grab it

I hadn't planned on hitting the pedal-fest but ya never know because I'm a bit interested in an old school pedalboard.

I think that was afternoon.
 
Here's the straight deal. Go find yourself a nice butterscotch Squier Affinity Tele that is playable and isn't jacked up. Get one with a maple fret board. Set it up to your liking. Replace the electronics with higher quality components of the same values. Install a Dimarzio Air Norton T in the bridge (you will have to special order it from Dimarzio, but they will wind it for you with no up-charge). Install a Dimarzio Area T Neck in the neck position. Enjoy playing and tonal bliss.

I've done this for more people than I can count and every one of them loves the playability and especially the tone and versatility of the guitar. I speak the truth.
 
I was on the same quest over the past year. Mainly just to broaden my pallete of tones. I love super strats, especially my Davies N4 with the Stephen's Extended Cutaway. I found that Stephen Davies used to make Telecasters so I finally found one on ebay. All traditional down to the woods, except for that awesome cutaway :thumbsup:

These are rare but another just came up on ebay yesterday (this one is a semi-hollow). I want this one baaaaad :D

what has gotten into bobby s lately? going back to the roots!

maybe the d60 lower gain = bigger tone started you down a tastier classic path where the fattest tones lie.

my buddies g&l tele sounded AMAZING with my rig.
just has this perfect blend of fat bigness on lead single notes...more fusiony...with a tele spank twist, and almost a P90 sg snarl.

I'm definitely wanting some of the classic tones in my toolbox and am attempting to take a bit of a different approach with my playing this time around, although the old dog new tricks thing and 30+ years of bad habits will certainly reveal themselves but hopefully dominate.

Nonetheless, looking to grow a bit this time if that's at all possible and I think branching out with the guitars I play is part of the equation.
 
Very cool! I remember when I first met you in person like 5 years ago or so you didn't even want to play my 335 or stat for that matter as you were a superstrat guy, period. Now you've got an LP and a tele!!! :D :D :D

And it wasn't just any superstrat, it was the Vigier only. I remember my buddy Mike saying how sweet your 335 was. I was just thinking "meh." :). Been that way forever, a one guitar guy, but I'm breaking that mold...

But in all seriousness I think you'll probably end up loving all the different tones and even vibes you get from drastically different guitars, I do :D
 
You have GOT to play a Baja tele in your quest for a good tele..
Unblievable value, custom shop pickups etc .. . .
I've had and played a huge share of Tele's and a good mexican Baja will hold its own in 90% of most company . . . .

I'm sure they're awesome but I spent a bit more money and bought an American Standard with an Ash body. Picture attached of the actual guitar.
