Tell me about P50Es/VHT Fatbottoms

I grabbed the Fatbottom but I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's very bright and my solid state VH140C seems too dry for the cabinet, but I still think it''s an improvement from my previous Vader cabinets. It also has some really cheap casters, two of which are slightly bent, while one decides to fall out if it's shaken too much after being lifted. I'm either going to replace them or slap on some rubber feed since it's not really that heavy. I'm getting a hefty tax return and will either get another 5150 or Axe FX which should sound better with it.

I made the mistake of letting another guitarist use my Engl SE and XXL pro cab (front load V30 oversized) while I used the Herbert thru the VHT/P50 cab and he shit all over me. The drummer said he could not hear me all night and no matter what I tried to do (mostly a shitload of volume) the V30 cab just handed me my ass. :gethim: Motherfuckinfuck. I realize it's not a volume war but it would be nice to at least be heard.

My Herbert sounded best through my Marshall V30 cabs. My Fatbottoms still had P50Es in them back when I had my Herbert and it sounded horrible through them. If it sounded anything like when I tried it, I am surprised you got through the gig without throwing something!

I've not done a lot of experimenting through my D412 with other amps but I absolutely love how the D60 sounds through it. Actually, I'm dying for a D212 but don't want to sell the D412 to get one so it's off my radar.

Yep. So far, the D412 is a wicked sounding cab. Haven't tried it in a gig environ yet, that'll be a while, but overall - very pleased. And for me, a nice reprieve from the commonality of the V30 umbrella (not saying there's anything WRONG with 'em, it's just that there's a LOT of them...).

I'll say it again, I am uncertain as to why there's more hype for the FB over the D, I'm digging the feel of D412 because of its lungs and looseness... Sounds epic rich!!

I wouldn't refer to the D412 as loose, but compared to the FB412 it's certainly less directionally focused and more "vintage" in general. The vintage part certainly has a "looser" aspect to it, but only compared to the FB. Compared to your average rear loaded cab with Celestions, it's very tight. Coupled with the D60 it's a real chest thumper.

The D412 is my fave of all their cabs. I used that for every track on my last disc. It's definitely deeper sounding and less directional compared to the FB series, but I wouldn't use the term loose...especially compared to other cabs I've played.

I KNEW as soon as I hit the Submit button that the term "looseness" was going to be ill regarded... My apologies. For those of you who have the D412, you'll understand what I'm trying to convey. It's got LIFE to it, it breathes, it has lungs... I'm very used to my VH4S through a G12K100 4x12, it's extremely tight and surgical. Then there's the 20thA XTC with the 20thA 4x12, it's looser, more vintagey, it's older school... But saying that the Bogner's looseness is similar to this Fryette D412's looseness is an impossibility. Different species altogether.

So apologies.

I'm just kinda impressed with this cab. It's a totally different cab than I've ever had in my musical repertoire. I think it hauls serious ass all over the place and sounds really, really amazing!! Maybe it's the preamp. Maybe it's the poweramp. Maybe the pups, or maybe all things combined - it sounds incredible. I was a little Hmmmmmmmm... when I did my research on the P50E. Lots of hot and cold reviews. I needed to find out for myself. I think this cabinet is just amazing.

So ya, not "loose", but "lively" :salute:

The Fatbottom is a nice cab to have around if you have a bunch of cabs..... However if you do not own any VHT amps and only plan on owning one 4x12 then I dont really see the point. The FB cab has a unique tone as described here and in many other threads. Its just not a classic type of sound that works well with most amps. It can be a bright and directional sounding cab depending on the situation.

No need for apologies. We're saying the same thing but just stating it differently, as is the nature of subjective terminology.

I haven't fired up an amp in quite a while but this thread has me itching to break out the Deliverance rig for a jam!

Just DO IT and don't look back. I think I've just become so accustomed to Celestion (specifically V30) speakers I forgot that there's a helluva lot of other treats out there too. I'm really diggin' this cab!! Things got BALLS man!!

I go on waves with playing .... been doing the acoustic thing to get my hand strength back.

Funny this thread came up today.

the guy I bought an amp from this morning also was trying to sell a Fryette Deliverance cab for pretty cheap i thought ($300), but I didn't have the cash on me, and didn't know what I would need it for, seeing as I already own 3 other 4x12's and a 2x12.

I thought about picking it up for a few minutes, but I dunno...
I just don't really need another cab at the moment...

not really.

but I do like that it is front loaded and comes with a cover.

didn't see any wheels tho...

bah!

LOL... no doubt. I'm just coming off about 18 months of not playing but I'm getting back in the groove and itching to make some noise.

One of the things that I've noticed about this cab is the perceived volume is higher than it really is when setting volume levels at jams because of the tightness/girth when chugging (see, I'm calling it tight :D ), it *seems* louder than many of the other amps that are usually present because there's no mud to speak of, but when just hitting chords and soloing it's apparent it's not louder, it just responds differently to palm mutes, etc.

So what you're saying confirms my initial belief that there's magical fairy dust all over these speakers and "P50E" is actually a code word for Shamanic Elves inside the cab that take the guitar's signal, and then combine outer-galactic energy vortices with this signal and then release this sonic orgasm through the grille cloth only framed by a word "Fryette".

Cool. I thought something like this was happening.

Actually the JMP-1 Preamp was perfect for getting great low volume tones...!

With a rig like that, "low volume" is IMO pure sacrilege!!!
