tell me about Parker Guitars.

I believe the general consensus is that the pre-Washburn/US Music Fly is the Parker to get. Assuming you swap out the original Dimarzios, though. These models are usually pretty reasonably priced on EvilBay.

That said, I've played a recently made Fly Mojo through a Mark IV and it actually sounded very good. Given the QC problems and the hideous overpricing of these guitars, though, I'd pass on the newer versions...

I worked on one of those foreign ones with a pickguard about a year ago. It was all in all a complete piece of dogshit. Comparable in quality to most $200 guitars. The neck had more bow on one side than the other, so much for that carbon fibre, huh? Shitty fretjob, cheap nut that wasn't cut properly and put on with WAY too much glue. And of course it sounded thin and tinny. I would rather have a Squier standard strat.

All the other ones I have played sounded terrible as well. (USA, etc)

That carbon fiber has a tendency to warp the fuck out of the necks.

If I'm not mistaken, the Korean Parkers have ebony fretboards, not the carbon-glass of the USA models.

I know a couple of "newb" style guitar players (ie.e just guys that strum and play a little here and there) that wont play anything but parker fly's. Ive never played one or had an interest in one myself.

You are correct sir, just a add-on statement to what i said earlier.

well I think I'm gonna give it ago. just to try it out anyways. I was talking to a friend today about them and he said he would buy it off me if I dont like it, he's a big fan of them, so I figure it cant hurt to try it, if I like it cool, if not then I wont be out any extra cash. :D

Well, hmmm...

Its been so long I couldn't tell you whether it was USA or foreign. I could have easily assumed it was oversees based on the build quality. It was a massive POS either way.

hey strat+ marshall i heard those parkers were actually made out of tammy faye baker`s tampons. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have a pre US Music Parker Fly Classic and a 2006 Fly Mojo.

Both guitars are excellent. They play like nothing else and sound very unique. I can get thinner strat tones as well as some pretty good beef out of them both (although the Mojo is a bit thicker then the Classic). Add in the piezo pickups and they are even more versatile. No technical problems other than a now slightly loose input jack on the Classic and a scratchy toggle on the Mojo. Both guitars have been lovingly abused and relentlessly gigged.

As with any piece of gear, you certainly want to try before you buy despite what you may read on the forums. I found these two guitars to be PERFECT for me and my needs. I don't think I'll ever really want another guitar aside from the usual uncontrollable case of GAS, which often has little to do with actual NEED. I like them that much. They both are guitars that as soon as I pick them up, they feel very, very right.
