Any info on this one? I cant find many clips of it. What stlye is this one best at? It will be going in an Alder body Maple neck strat style guitar.

It's pretty hot, is very thick but articulate, and has some pretty pronounced upper mids. I have one in my Mahogany strat, and a Black Iron (Angle Dust w/ A2) in an Alder strat. Probably would compare the Angle Dust to a SD Custom 5, but admittedly that's from a limited pool.

I would be putting it in an Alder strat. Which one do you like better?

My vote would be for the Black Iron in that guitar.......but if you change your mind, and decide that you want the Angel Dust later....try a quick change to A5 magnet to see if you like that better. If you like it, you can leave it that way, or order an Angel Dust from Wade.

Im looking for one that is great for 80' metal. Not hairband.

The Black Iron will be darker due to the A2 magnet...you should just base your decision on that...

I had black irons in a suhr alder strat and felt they were too bright. Good pickups but probably better in a mahogany guitar than alder.
I'm finding Alder to be bright in general and am having trouble finding a the right pickup for it.
Am trying the WCR murkat now...darkburst (awesome in an LP) were too bright too.
If you are playing a marshallish amp think you will find the BI's to be bright.
Finding the right pickup for the right guitar is not easy....if the WCR doesn't work..I'm going with a BKP Holy Diver.

Thanks for all the input guys. I have decided to go with the Motor City hot heads in the guitar.

I have an MCP Afwayu, slightly under wound, in my hard ash tele and it's awesome. Very full bottom end. In the same neighborhood as a BKP Nailbomb alnico, but a bit more articulate and tighter in the bottom end. Good metal pups for bright guitars.

The Angel Dust (A5) pickup is an awesome pickup. One of my favs for sure especially in an Alder bodied guitar. It has a low mid thickness with a nice articulate top end/mid spike without being harsh and it also sounds pissed off. The Angel Dust A2 is way different and you would expect it to be darker since it has an A2 magnet, but not even close. It is one bright pickup with tons of upper mids/high end and also lacks a bit in the bass dept. Still a great pick up though but bright!!

On that note, I did go with the Hot Heads for my Luxxtone build and I also have the Garuda set in an upgraded cheap mahogany bodied/set-neck guitar and that it just plain smokes and sounds like an improved JB without all the annoying mid-spike and the loose bottom end. I had an Aldrich set in this guitar and while the Aldrich set was damn good, the Garuda's were even better. The Hot Heads are supposed to have a wider tonal spectrum than the Garuda's.

I was having a similar issue with a swamp ash/ maple top and maple board and neck. The BK nailbomb did it just right per Tims recommendation. This was my fourth nailbomb. It woked in two of three guitars I tried it in. I honestly didn't love the holy diver. It was good but didn't do it for me in an Alder body Jackson. I have tried quite a few BK's

I did not like the Holy Divers either in my Alder bodied/maple neck guitar.

Angeldust - pretty high output, so you're gonna get a bit of compression. Described as a great version of a JB, that does sum it up - it has that mid quality but it isn't wildly exaggerated. In an Alder body I found it to be about perfect except I did miss some bloom on the high notes. Being high output it seemed to favor some amps and not so much others.

Well said!!! It is a great higher output pickup and does have a bit of compression.

Tried the Angeldust in a Luxxtone this last summer. High output, high compression pup. IMO, lacking clarity and responding to picking attack/expressiveness that I usually prefer, but for a high output pup it was not bad - par for the course if that is the direction you are headed. It might be interesting to hear it by underwinding it a bit and bringing down the DC around 12.

What amp did you play it through? An underwound AD does sound interesting though. I have an order in for a regular AD, so I might ask Wade to make it an underwound one since I already have a stock AD in one of my guitars now. I like the low mids on this PUP and it can get overly compressed if you subject it to lots of gain. It also depends on the amp and the amp settings.
