My quick first glance opinion...
Looks like Tyler's take on a les Paul/Tele/JG thing...actually loos pretty awesome. Scraped binding, manly neck...plays like a Tyler...doh.

Plugged it in and tried it's a bitchen guitar...like I said a Tyler.
Took some of the models for a test drive, the total stand outs to me where the Gretsch and Tele, especially tuned to bari. The Lester was cool, especially when going back and forth with the regular pick-ups.
The Special with drop D for Modern Country stuff was way hip...I'm impressed.

I still have a Variax 700 acoustic and when ever I switch to ny open tuning the latency kills it for me. Not so on this one...

More later...

I'm pretty excited to try one of these (most likely the Korean model). It's such a great idea, and now it should live up to the hype seeing as how James Tyler built it.

I've been playing it for the last 5 hours...and this flooring me. Great guitar with the new Variax guts...actually a dream in terms of versatility.

Damn, that actually looks pretty friggin' sweet!

First Tyler headstock I've seen that doesn't make me throw up in my mouth, too!

Huge Racks was talking this up alot, cool to see one in a user's hands.

So Tyler built 100% or some outsourcing?

Not sure...I think they're Tyler designed and have the Korean build one and the US build one. This prototype is all Jim's work.

Should be interesting either way.
I just spent the last couple of hours A/B'ing it with some of my Strats and Teles...and the thing simply kills.

Awesome news!

I'll have to say I'm very interested in this model since you have said they addressed the feel.

I'd be interested if they ended up throwing the updated electronics in an acoustic, so it handles the alt tunings better, along with the 12-strings and such. I always thought it was a great concept, just a bit lacking in the delivery.

I think one of the coolest features is that you can set and save your own preset tunings. That alone would be very useful for a cover gig ranging from standard to drop D to Zep covers with open tunings.

Yeah, I've been messing with the baritone tuning...which drops it down to A...and no worrying about stringing it with huge strings...

Hey guys, Rich Renken here. I work for Line 6 and am a key guy in the development of the new guitar. Ed is a good friend and one of my beta testers. Also, an all around bad ass guy. :) I am here for questions. I will not offer my opinions and I will not spam your forums. Not my style.

Wanted to jump in and let you know that the JTV-59US that Ed has was not made by Jim, it was made using our USA process as follows.

Wildwood up north made the body and neck. We have a cat in Norco, CA that paints them and they are put together by Tim Wilson who managed the Jackson Custom shop for 17 years.

Looks pretty nice, interested in checking one out. Is it a set neck or bolt on?

Only strange thing about it being a Tyler is the headstock, which looks exactly like Warmoth's own design.

For the Paulish design, Jim liked our 3 on a side headstock so we stuck with it. Warmoth built replacement necks for the old Variax guitars.

are variax electronics available to consumers ?
I was talking to Nate at Rico guitars yesterday and we got to talking about some custom builds I found , He was also curious where one might be able to get the parts without taking them out of a already built guitar.

I played the Line 6 variax 700. Are these the same tones in the Tyler Variax? I loved the Gretsch, Rick and Gibson tones but not so much with the Tele and Strat models. I could hear the tone of the piezo coming through on the Tele models. The Strat tones were too dark for my taste. Other than that I thought it rocked.
