Thanks a lot, you bunch of jerks for exposing me to the hand-built amp makers. Guys like Shea (MonoMyth), Kyle (KSR), Jeremy (GroundZero), etc. that developed their own amp lines. There I was perfectly content GASing for the well-known brands you see in every music store and you had to go and open up this whole new world to explore. Just what I needed in my life… to spend more money on gear. I was warned not to play with you kids and you’re nothing but trouble, but I didn’t listen. Damn you all!

Seriously though; I’ve made it to a point in my life where I can do better than walking into GC, trying to find something I can afford and walking out with a shitty little Esteban amp trying to make do. I finally feel comfortable spending a little more to get something nice. While looking for something to put on my wish list I ended up stumbling on a post about the GroundZero Hellion which led me to searching out more makers like this. I’ll end up GASing and spending more than I really should. But it’s been enjoyable discovering those shops that don’t get the exposure they deserve. Makes me glad there’s a community like RT where we can discover and show our support for these guys.

I love my Monomyth Skeleton Key and my KSR Ares. I don't plan on getting any more amps this year but Ground Zero Hellion, Headfirst Alta, and Thermite amps are on my list.

I love knowing the actual builder or the team that built my gear. I mean with Shea, Kyle Rhodes, hell even Nik at Ceriatone know what I like and always steer me in the right direction. I also use Deadweald pedals for my boost and noise gate. If I could find a steady guitar builder and someone to build my delays, reverbs, etc I would be in heaven. If my teenager self would know that I could speak directly to the people making my gear I would geek out so hard. Growing up I just knew gear from faceless corporations who took my money and really didn't care if I liked it or not as long as the got my money.

It's nice to give my business to people who appreciate it. Who don't over sell me on stuff I don't need.
I'm really looking forward to getting my chubtone and some pickups from Scottosan. Now I just need to talk someone into making me some pedals to go in my effects loop

U could have said you might try smoking crack sooner or later too hahaha

Buncha enablers. I would’ve been content with my Laney and 5150 II if it wasn’t for you scoundrels and heathens.

Now I’m down the modded Marshall rabbit hole and own a bunch of boutique amps.

Seriously though I thank a lot of you - I wouldn’t own the gear that I do if not for the other resident modders.

My amps are inexpensive (Rivera, Zinky, Orange) but the discovery of small tweaks like NOS preamp tubes, cathode bias, speaker breaking/wiring/certain runs-date codes, etc have allowed me to get tones that never leave me wanting. Gas is gone save for a Gjika 10n quarter stack, but that’s like $7,500!

The more attention and value we put on understanding the signal chain, the greater value we can experience using it.

I just want to play now!

Side note: I did convert my Zinky Mofo to cathode bias with a 100w British PT and PAC Trans Trainwreck spec OT to run my tubes at 30w each at idle because I’m cray cray like that, so I’m a modder too.

Now that glory is at hand I’d be happy playing Hum covers with Zack all night! He’s got me gassing for creambacks, the jerk! Haha. Damn that guy gets the sickest tones with a few choice pieces.

Yeah man..between here and TGP, I ended up owning a ton of amps I otherwise never would have heard of…so many different shades or flavors it’s been a tonal blessing with matching credit card debt for years! ?

Eventually... after the amp flipping becomes tedious, you will settle on a few keepers.
Some time will go by and you will see more stuff you won't see in the wild and want to get back into it.
Then either the cycle continues,or you just enjoy watching others post clips and debate the merits of boosts or vintage NOS tubes.
Either way,you will often be saving for gear or be robbing Peter to pay Paul(flipping).
If you do it right...at the end you have some cool gear,a great credit rating and have figured out "your tone".
