...when you can't handle the truth.
I've been using the TC Flashback since day 1. It's the delay that made me love delays. First the 2290 and mod modes, then I fell in love with the Tape. Got lucky enough to get in touch with Tore from TC on another forum, talked about a Tri Chorus Toneprint and it happened. My delay was my chorus too, perfect. And the dotted 8th...
But I wanted more and went for a Timefactor. Great pedal, dual delays are a must. Really digging the digital, ducking and tape modes. Fine modulatins. And presets, midi implementation ! It was going to stay forever, but I plugged the Flashback that was in a drawer and... It was still there, this small pedal was standing against the Timefactor.
With all that Strymon hype I decided to give it a go, sold the Timefactor, found a cheap Timeline and was floored. Incredible delays, dtape, dbucket are huge. Ice, pattern and lofi are powerful tool. I manage to set up a bunch of presets that are quite great, including a reverb, a chorus, a flanger and a rotary. But it required tweaking, and still does. And in the end after a few weeks I'm using only 2-3 of them. I'm also a bit pissed by the kill dry bug running since a few months.
And yesterday I took again my trustful Flashback out of the drawer, dotted 8th tape delay, and it was it. That particular setting I want and can't find on the Timeline. Gave a try to some new Toneprints that rock too. Right now the tiny blue is plugged in the Hagen, not the big grey.
It's very frustrating. I know that the Timeline should smoke the Flashback, but it doesn't (for me). I like to be able to tweak my effects, but I also like this "direct gratification" of a 3 knobs delay. I do want to prefer the Timeline, I heard an update should appear soon and maybe it will solve that issue. On the other hand, if the Flashback X4 gets a better midi implementation, it could be the solution for me.
