Second time this happened with this music retail chain with brick and mortar franchises who also sell online.
Last year or so, found a guitar at one of the stores I wanted; called the store, talked to someone (got his name, and the date/time of our conversation); he said yes we have the guitar; I placed an online order that went through; pending charge posted on my credit card.
Next morning, I get an email order was cancelled. Called and they said the guitar had sold before I placed my order. I called out the person, date and time I spoke too, and he denied ever saying it. well how did I know who he was, and when he was at the store, while I was hundreds of miles away? didn't matter.
This past weekend, on Sunday, I purchased an Ibanez 5-string fretless bass; order went through, pending charges posted to my credit card. This morning I get an email, order cancelled notification; they said someone came into the store and purchased it Sunday, but their systems don't update until overnight. What are the odds? I mean how many people in Columbus, OH who would walk in to a music store and buy a 5-string fretless bass on the same day I placed my order?
My guess is they leave items up online after they sell, and if it sells and you buy it, they give some BS story and cancel your order.
At least they reversed the charge quickly.
As a consolation, I did find the same Ibanez bass model in a 4-string, fretted; but I was out to buy a fretless.
Still looking for a fretless now...but I'll see how I like this model in the meantime.
