We've had this thread before, but it's been a LONG time, and things can change, so lets have it again

What's the best deal (and I mean a VERY good, almost STUPID deal) you've gotten on a piece of gear?

Like I dunno the guy that found the silverface in a pawn store for 300 bucks or something.... etc etc

everything goes, amps, guitars, pedals, etc etc etc

A Gibson Explorer brand new from Guitar Center for like $350. They were the Mahoganey models and they were on sale, plus I brought a $150 coupon, plus I talked them into not including the $180 case. I think I turned that guitar around and sold it for $800.

1964 L Series Fender Jaguar for phreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

- Got a like new Les Paul Standard for $350.
- Traded an Epiphone Joe Pass model straight across for a '76 Les Paul Custom.

1989 Limited run Hamer Californian w/ reverse headstock and boomerang inlays for.....$100.
This was in '09. Guy didn't know what he had. The paint on the body was VERY beat up, but the frets and neck looked almost like new. This is it on the right.

Lawsuit Ibanez Les Paul copy, mint, AND 1964 Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverb....$ 75 FOR BOTH at a farm auction in Kansas.

Got some EV and Yamaha floor monitors for free. Well, not really free, because my bassist owed me money and paid me in gear.

Gibson SG Gothic for $350 brand new with a gig bag. I had a buddy behind the counter at Sam Ash and he tipped me off once they were discontinued. Basically called me over and said I could have it for whatever $$$ I had.

i have gotten some crazy deals over the yrs. About 5 yrs ago I was at a red light and saw an sg in the pawn shop window so for the hell of it I did an illegal u turn and went in. I asked to see it and It was in the nicest condition I have ever seen for an sg jr. They didnt know the year but I could tell it was vintage due to no made in usa and wierd serial number layout. It was in orig rare case with some paperwork and old string set. I chewed them down to $275. It turned out to be a 63 and it had the vibrato in cherry red all original and not even a scratch!! They didnt know it was old cause of the mint cond and figured it was still just a beginners guitar like in the old days. I also purchased a pawn slip from a drug addict on its last day for $55.00 , I then paid the $212 to the pawn shop and got a mint condition jetglo Rickenbacker 4003 bass with all options and original hard case! I got another Rickenbacker 4001 bass that looked like lemmy's in natural for $300 in orig case from a dude who was broke. I got a 60's ampeg reverbrocket for $22 from a crackhead. I got a lee jackson modded 77 2203 from gc for $299 cause they thought it was noisy and a bad mod and it was only a bad preamp tube and worked perfectly and was my main amp for a few yrs. Also got a late 50's magnatone combo amp with awesome tube reverb and tremolo for $7 at a yardsale and sold it for $400 on ebay. Theres more but I forget, I could go on and on. Gibson rd bass from the 70's for $70 at a trading post an also sold it on ebay for $475

-Angus Young SG for $100

I've never really got a really good deal on my gear. Infact with the exception of a few recent purchases that were decent deals, I think I've overpaid for a lot of my stuff.

I did inherit a 1970 Martin D35 from my wife's (although she was just my girlfriend at the time) grandfather when he passed. I was the only musician in the family. I never met the man, but I sure am grateful. Not really a "deal" though.
