Not killer deals, but:

USA Ibanez RT650 - $75. I traded that for a Traynor cab, then for a Washburn Raven, then that plus $50 for a DiStefano Strat that I sold for $625

Hamer Vector XT Flying V - $100 (NOS)

MIJ Jackson Randy Rhoads first year - $100

Fender MIM '70s RI Strat - $200

Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass - $250

'79 USA Fender Strat - $450

'09 USA Jackson King V KV2 (near mint w/Jackson flight case) - $450

USA Jaackson PC-1, mint comdition for $650
Jubilee 1x12 combo for $250
Hamer USA Californian Solid flame maple body and set neck, Boomerang inlays and binding, Original case for $500

I bought a 1972 Gibson SG for $175 in 2001. I sold it 6 months later for $1300 and it was used hard (far from mint).

I just bought a Mesa boogie EV loaded Thiele for $200

Im sure there are other deals but these two stick out to me right now.

My deal pales in comparison to most here, but I still treasure my Boss DM-2 that I bought off of my office manager for $20.

And if I had known what it was when I had it, the '77 JMP 2204 I bought back in high school for $300!

Last but not least, the guitar I've had the longest; my Fender custom shop set neck strat that I traded for essentially $1,000 worth of gear and cash. I think it's a '94-'95 make. Turns out, it was a one off job for an area artist that the music store guy who was trying to support his cocaine habit wasn't supposed to let out of the store. Their loss, my gain. I still have, love, and play that guitar a lot.

BC Rich shorthorn Mockingbird for $300
Silvertone 1484 "Twin Twelve" for $35
Epiphone Pacemaker for $25

My best score ever was a Trace Elliot stack. 4x10 with a head. all for $100

I sold it to our new bassist for the same price. Well bad part is after a while we realized he couldn't do it. I think he turned it around for $600.

My best score for myself was kind of cheating. My buddy was a manager at G.C. back when they gave 5% over cost discounts. I think he and I may have been the biggest contributors to the policy change. Sorry

I got a 6505+ for $800 (gc price was 1,200)

Pdp kit with rack, cymbals, double kick pedal. all for $800 (the GC price on the shells alone was 999)

7321 for like $150

Thats really about it, I got my VHT 100w Pitbull for $1,000. Not a huge score but a fair price.

Slo 100 Rack - Free (as a paycheck)

I once sold 2 Marshall 1960a cabs for $150 just to get them out of the house too.

- Mesa Single Rectifier (mint) for $450
- 1965 Blackface Fender Dual Showman for $300
- 1970 Silverface Fender Champ for $80

I had a buddy who found a Neumann mic at Value Village (basically like a Salvation Army) for $5. He sold it for $1200. Another buddy of mine found a Leslie speaker enclosure at the same store for $40. They thought it was just a big heavy piece of furniture.

My Dual Rectifier for $750.

Box of about 7 vintage Electro-Harmonix pedals for $5.

My girlfriend's mom found a 1991 Ibanez RG550, an old Mexican Strat, a beginner Yamaha acoustic, and a peaver practice amp in a dumpster and gave them all to me for free. The RG550 was in amazing shape and the Fender was a fun project to restore.

in 1981 I bought a 1962 candy apple red Tele for $350.00 Traded it in a few years later for BC Rich Mockinbird. Wish I still had both.

I was still young at age 14, and had only been playing a couple years during the summer of 1988. I had an Epiphone strat at the time which to me was pretty cool. Turned out, my older sister's neighbor was quite the guitar collector. I remember my chin hitting the floor the first time I saw the room in his house dedicated strictly to guitars and gear. I'd go by there on occasion just to drool over some of the cool stuff he had, namely one particular wine red Les Paul.

I was cutting grass, baling hay, and earning a little bit of cash...so I asked him if he'd sell it to me, not really knowing what these things were worth. I think his first reaction was "You don't have the money for this one". I saved what cash I could over the summer hoping it would be enough to get it. On one of my visits he informs me that he's moving, I think maybe it was a job transfer or something. I ask him again if I can buy the Les Paul. He asked how much I had saved to which my answer was "$400, but I'll throw in my Epiphone". He said ok, but told me never to get rid of it. I know he did it just to do a favor for a kid newly into guitar.

I still have it, and will never sell it. I haven't talked to him since that day, and can't for the life of me remember his name, but would love to shake his hand and tell him thanks again.

I think along the lines of Digital Jams' answer. I've gotten things that I flipped for a nice profit but the best deal is something that is really "it" for you and gets you to stop wasting money on the endless pursuit of tone. For me, that is my Baron amps and Music Man Axis guitars. I'm all set.

1968 Gibson Non-Reverse Firebird: $0. My neighbor gave it to me. Wound up selling it for $2500, to put towards the lady's engagement ring.

"broken" Boss CE2 for $20 bucks, turned out it just needed some deoxit.

I once got a new Mark IV short-head with a new vertical 2x12 recto cab at GC for $1229. That was right after new years about 6 years ago. I also got a brand new Mesa Stiletto for $900 from GC when the stage 2 model came out.

traded a quarter of bad crank ($20) for a black gibson explorer and case. (it was the 80's)

traded an 8 ball for a cavity-creep crest green esp strat (80's again. esp's were rare as hell back then)

traded a gram for a minty jcm800 head. didn't have a cab to play it though, had to make one out of particle board. (80's)

the stories go on and on......and on.

$650 for a Soldano Hot Rod 50+ and sold it a week later for $1200

Pro Artist Melancon for $500.00 off of Greenville S.C. craigslist. Great guitar.
1968 Fender Bandmaster Reverb for $350.00
I think I've been screwed on everything else.

1959 Les Paul Special........$900.00
