The tension is actually pretty slack. It's similar to 9-46 in E. No joke. For reference, I use 11-56 in C for 24.75, and it's fairly similar. For 25.5'', I use 11-52 in C.

Right on. No buzz? Im just curious. Im not gonna try it, i play in standard and D too much to get the nut cut on my guitar, that and i have other guitars for low tuning.

My schecter is 26.5 and I have 12-56 (I think) and the fucker plays great and stays in tune. Maybe that new ESP signature 7 LP would do it...

No buzz. Roughly ~0.003''-0.005'' neck relief, so it has a super straight neck. 1/32'' on the low b and 3/64'' on the high B measured @ the 12th fret. Extremely low action, which is what I prefer. These are my standard specs when I set up guitars, although every guitar is slightly different. I have a light fretting hand, so I'm able to make these specs work, but they don't work for most people out there.

I definitely have had issues with 3x3 headstocks having less tuning stability than 6 in line.
My ESP Eclipse II with a bone nut and Sperzel tuners does a hell of a job. I'm a fan of graphite nuts and string saddles, but don't often spring for them.
If you're using 12s, then a wound 3rd should help tuning stability a good bit.
This would be a pretty solid solution: http://espguitars.com/guitars/esp-stand ... e2-fr.html

I don't want a floyd, but that's the second rec for an eclipse, so I'll look into it.

I've got two ESP Eclipses and never have any tuning issues.

They have some awesome tops too. Here's a brand new one in black aqua that I picked up last month.

PRS Singlecuts stay in tune way better than Gibson's. Anderson Bulldog also stayed in tune well.

And Steve Morse.......he tunes up after every song and takes forever to do it.

I hate Floyds but once you spend 3 months getting it setup...  yes, it will stay in tune better than anything.

ESP is a lot more my style than the PRS, not that I've really played either, but based on look anyway. Prob go for black rather than a figured top.

In my very recent experience I've found the nut has MUCH more to do with tuning than the tuners, the bridge as well... if your not binds in ANY way, as soon as your strings move you are going to be out of tune... a good nut and Big Bends Nut Sauce will do wonders for tuning issues... trust me...

Depending on your budget don't rule out an LTD EC1000. They are great guitars for the money and you can find them for $400 used with EMGs

+1 Big Bends

EC1000s are great, but in all my throes of GAS benders, I've never thought about selling my Eclipse and I've sold 2 EC1000s and 1 EC400. They're great guitars, but they can set off some might Eclipse GAS and the ESP is a keeper.

I forced myself to confront my hatred of Floyds and bolt on necks recently and after the third time setting one up, it's really simple to do and fairly quick. It does take a lot more tools on hand, but it's nice not having to tune all the time. The fine tuners give you a lot more room for tuning accuracy too.

I have two LPs and have no problem keeping them in tune. It's all in how the nut is cut. Contrary to popular belief, locking tuners don't really add to tuning stability unless you have some ultra shitty ones already installed. They're mainly just for convenience.
There's your answer.

My old Les Paul Custom stayed in tune great. And I played it like a Stratocaster. Bendy. ;)

I've never seen a band fuss around with onstage tuning as much as Opeth live recently (twice !) Both players are playing new PRS signature axes, though I've never experienced or read much about PRS specific tuning issues myself.
My prs stay in tune fine in lower tunings. Longer scale & heavier strings with a properly cut nut helps. But even my stripped 58(24.5") does drop C just fine.

I've played a ton of Gibson LP's, and none of them seem to stay in tune. Particularly in low tunings like b standard or drop a. I know that you can get locking tuners and have the guitar setup for a lower tuning, but I'm wondering if you guys know of a LP style guitar that does particularly well with those tunings?

Cheers.

This will dramatically improve Gibson tuning woes:

1. Proper nut
2. Big Bends Nut Sauce
3. Wind your strings like this.....

To the OP....LP's will have a tough time from Drop C and below, because of the short neck, but they can hold long enough for a song, most of the time. One thing besides the locking tuners is a Tone Pro's locking bridge and locking tailpiece. This is where a lot of the slop comes from.

Steve

Definitely look at the LTD EC line.
Any model# 401 and up are KILLER axes. Made for what you want to do here.

Today I actually just bought a used EC-500 and it's a dream for the price.
Gloss black, white body/neck binding, EMGs = awesomness.

Hell, if you can find a ESP Eclipse for a decent price, even better!

I actually just picked up an LTD EC256 a couple of weeks ago for under $200 and I'm very impressed with it. Of course the hardware was all crap, but I gutted my Agile that I never played and swapped everything out. Now it has EMG's, Tonepros TOM, and Grover locking tuners. I also had a graptech nut cut for it and now it stays in tune really well. Not the best sounding guitar I've ever owned, but it's super fun to play!! I can tell you too that the difference in tuning stability between before I had the nut replaced and now is night and day. Before, you would look at it wrong and it would go out of tune. Now I can do big bends and bash the shit out of it and it stays in tune. So really, just the nut makes a HUGE difference. Here's a pic of it from just before I had the nut swapped...
